Con sus dos estupendos albumes, sonaron bastante en las emisoras del Reino Unido y otros países (España, entre ellos), y llegaron a actuar en varias ciudades europeas. Pero lo que condenó a la banda de Liverpool fue, probablemente, que llegaron tarde a la fiesta. La segunda mitad de los 80 fue un momento dulce para el pop-rock inglés e irlandés, que consolidó a grupos como U2, Simple Minds, Dire Straits o Simply Red. Pero los RCP se subieron al carro en 1989, cuando el movimiento languidecía, y a pocos meses de la explosión, al otro lado del Atlántico, del fenómeno grunge. La banda aguantó como pudo el desinterés por el folk-rock, y aunque llegó a lanzar en 1991 un segundo gran LP, acabó deshaciéndose pocos meses después. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

Algo así le ocurrió a un grupazo de nombre River City People. La década de los ochenta fue extraña. Mucha música y mucha experimentación con las nuevas tecnologías que se reproducían por momentos, algunos de ellos efímeros... En esa maraña musical podía salir a la luz casi cualquier cosa. Y ese inmenso bosque camufló la música que siempre existió y ha ido evolucionando poco a poco hasta nuestros días. Es ese pop folk, estilo Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, 10.000 Maniacs... A esa fiesta se apuntó River City People con dos trabajos estupendos: "Say Something Good" del año 1989 y " This Is The World" del 1991, demostrando estar en la línea de los anteriores grupos nombrados... Pero los inicios de los noventa vivieron un fenómeno Grunge que lo inundó todo. Un fenómeno musical interesante, que aportó mucho a la música, pero que fagocitó todo el pop y parte del rock a su paso. Entre los damnificados, esos grupos de pop folk estilo RCP. El sonido sucio del Grunge, de una generacion desencantada, no dejaba lugar a las melodías folkies que versionaba el California Dreamin '... Eso, y los problemas internos del grupo, por supuesto, terminaron con la carrera de un grupo que tenía muy buenas hechuras, con temas de muchísima calidad como " Walking on Ice " y un discazo impresionante como Say Something God...   Del primer trabajo salio esta maravillosa cancion que fue single,  WALKING ON ICE, aqui esta la version extendida de 12". Joining  Adderley  for the six tracks here are fellow  Davis  alumni  Philly Joe Jones  on drums and  Bill Evans  on piano. These three are augmented by the wonderful and often-underrated  Blue Mitchell  on trumpet and the equally illustrious  Sam Jones  on bass. Everyone is in top form on a varied set that takes in two  Adderley  originals (the fine ballad "Straight Life" and "A Little Taste"), a classic  Gigi Gryce  number ("Minority"), and  Miles ' oft-covered "Nardis." Filling out the program, we have a rare  Sam Jones -penned cut, "Blue Funk," and a lone standard in the  Rogers & Hammerstein  chestnut from Oklahoma, "People Will Say We're in Love." One of the highlights from  Adderley 's hard bop prime. "Things Are Getting Better" This title provides ample evidence why alto  Cannonball Adderley  is considered one of the masters of his craft. Here he joins forces with  Modern Jazz Quartet  co-founder  Milt Jackson  on vibes to create a variety of sonic atmospheres. They are backed by the all-star ensemble of  Wynton Kelly  on piano,  Percy Heath  on bass, and the one and only  Art Blakey  on drums. The moody "Blues Oriental" opens the set with  Jackson  immediately diving in with his trademark fluid runs and shimmering intonation.  Adderley  counters with a light and lively line that weaves between the rhythm section. The optimistic "Things Are Getting Better" is a good-natured romp as the co-leads trade and cajole each other into some downright rollicking exchanges. This directly contrasts with the sultry "Serves Me Right," which allows the combo members to demonstrate their collective musical malleability. The interaction between  Adderley  and  Jackson  sparkles as they entwine their respective playing with an uncanny singularity of spirit. The cover of  Dizzy Gillespie 's "Groovin' High" contains another spirited performance with some thoroughly engaging improvisation, especially during  Adderley 's voracious solos. "Sidewalks of New York" bops freely as  Jackson  unleashes some sublime licks against a hearty and equally boisterous sax.  Adderley 's "Sounds for Sid" demonstrates his uncanny ability to swing with a strong R&B vibe. With drop-dead timing and profound instrumental chops, this cut is undoubtedly one of the best from  Adderley 's earliest canon. The album concludes with a jumping reading of  Cole Porter 's "Just One of Those Things." While  Wynton Kelly  has been uniformly solid, his interjections stand out here as he bridges and undergirds the two as they banter with flair and aplomb. This set can be recommended without hesitation to all manner of jazz enthusiast, as it quite literally offers something for every taste. Over the years they have developed a simple musical formula: bass and drums putting down a funky, locked-in groove, luscious and slippery blues guitar runs coupled with sophisticated keyboard washes, tightly syncopated horns, and sweet, angelic backup harmonies. Lyrics are simple, heart-felt and true, and come from the been there, done that school of hard knocks, delivered with equal helpings of heartach and humor. In the early 70's, with the arrival of arranger Wardell Quezergue, Malaco claimed its first major hit with King Floyd's Groove Me. Malaco became a destination studio for big stars like Paul Simon, The Pointer Sisters, and many New Orleans and Stax recording artists who wanted the polished style mixed with Southern seasoning that the studio provided. It was this environment that created Dorothy Moore's eternal classic, the haunting Misty Blue. Recorded in one take, the song was a massive hit, yielding gold records and a spot in the pantheon for Malaco. The End of the Rainbow is another example of this classic style.But styles shifted, and with the arrival of Disco music, R&B artists suddenly became pigeon-holed as Blues artists and radio turned away from them. Malaco stayed true to down home music, at the same time adding drum machines and synth patches to their musical signature. The label sold singles to club jukeboxes and suddenly the dance floors filled up. ZZ Hills Down Home Blues became the anthem of the folks who love to hit the club on the weekend. And playing the Frank Zappa role as lyricist, singer, and provocateur was Mick Farren, one of the most intriguing figures to emerge from the UK underground. Farren actually had a much longer and distinguished career as a writer than he did as a musician…he penned a total of 23 novels and 11 works of non-fiction, all of them redolent of his unique sensibility (his 1976 article The Titanic Sails at Dawn for New Musical Express predicted the rise of punk rock). And on the music side, he never did anything that wasn't extreme, collaborating with Lemmy of Hawkwind and Motörhead and Wayne Kramer of the MC5 among others residing on the cutting and bleeding edge of rock and roll. 1969's Deviants III was the third and last record he cut with his band The Deviants (the other members went on to form Pink Fairies); despite the strains in the band and Farren's later panning of its quality, it's regarded in some quarters as a masterpiece, capturing the dark side of the end of the '60s with such songs as Billy the Monster and The People's Suite. Our reissue features the rare gatefold art that came out on the Sire label in the States, with a black and white nun's habit vinyl pressing limited to 1000 copies. Farren collapsed while playing on stage with a re-formed (but not reformed!) version of The Deviants in 2013 and died soon thereafter…a fitting way for the unrepentant radical to go. R.I.P.
