LOU REED: ROCK AND ROLL HEART [DEU 1992] CD/RE LOU REED: ROCK AND ROLL HEART [DEU 1992] CD/RE (Arista - BMG)  1992  made in Germany cat. num.  262 271 #rock   1 I Believe In Love 2:42 2 Banging On My Drum 2:09 3 Follow The Leader 2:09 4 You Wear It So Well 4:47 5 Ladies Pay 4:17 6 Rock And Roll Heart 3:02 7 Chooser And The Chosen One 2:44 8 Senselessly Cruel 2:04 9 Claim To Fame 2:48 10 Vicious Circle 2:52 11 A Sheltered Life 2:17 12 Temporary Thing 5:12   Rock and Roll Heart  was  Lou Reed 's first album for Arista Records, and one senses that he wanted to come up with something saleable for his new sponsors. Uptempo numbers with pop hooks dominate the set, the 12 songs zip by in an efficient 38 minutes, and instead of  Reed 's trademark meditations on the dark side of life, the lyrics are (for the most part) lean bursts of verse and chorus, in which the artist sings the praises of good times in general and rock & roll in particular (then again, on "I Believe in Love,"  Reed  pledges his allegiance to both "good time music" and "the iron cross," a bit of perversity to remind us whose album this is). But if  Rock and Roll Heart  sounds like " Lou Reed  Lite," there are more than a few flashes of  Reed 's inarguable talent. His band is in fine form (especially  Marty Fogel  on sax and  Michael Fonfara  on keyboards). "Banging on My Drum" is a crunchy rocker that recalls his work with  the Velvet Underground; "A Sheltered Life" is an amusing bit of  VU  archeology (the Velvets demoed the song, but this marked its first appearance on record); and the closer, "Temporary Thing," is a bitter, haunting narrative that foreshadows  Reed 's next album, the harrowing masterpiece  Street Hassle.

HALEY BILL & HIS COMETS - SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATOR HALEY BILL & HIS COMETS - SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATOR Discográfica:   Bear Family It's quite astonishing that Rock'n'Roll music was as popular in Brazil's blazing heat of the year 1956 as elsewhere. This is proved through this 10inch album, a reissue of an original Brazilian 1956 Bill Haley & His Comets platter, which is one of the rarest amongst hard-to-find albums, today. Bill Haley & His Comets already started to rock around the world with Rock Around The Clock in 1955 which was also the title song in the movie 'Blackboard Jungle'. He became the first boss of Rock and he eventually also reached the country of Brazil in 1956. Haley got millions of fans in Brazil and therefore he went on several tours throughout the country of Brazil during the following years. It started with two movies starring Bill Haley & His Comets, 'Rock Around The Clock', and 'Don't Knock The Rock', which found their ways into Brazilian movie theaters resulting into decisions by the record company Decca to issue Haley's records in slightly different forms in Brazil as well. Those platters are some of today's most sought-after collector's items because of their limited ordinance. Besides the title track on 'See You Later, Alligator - Rock'n'Roll com Bill Haley e seus Cometas', there are more hit-songs such as The Saints Rock'n'Roll, an adaption of the late standard When The Saints Go Marching In, Teenager's Mother (Are You Right?), plus some songs from the above mentioned movies, including the breath-taking instrumental Rudy's Rock, which features Haley's saxophone-man, Rudy Pompilli. All these songs are not only music history but dancefloor fillers! This music gets you in the mood to dance, to rock around the clock! We added two bonus tracks to the song lineup of the original album for your extra pleasure. Both bonus tracks were recorded in 1956. Two Hound Dogs could've been meant as an answer song to Presley's Hound Dog. The second bonus song, Hide And Seek, is sung by Billy Williamson of the Comets.

PINNELL JEREMY - TIES OF BLOOD & AFFECTION PINNELL JEREMY - TIES OF BLOOD & AFFECTION Discográfica:   SofaBurn When Jeremy Pinnell released OH/KY in the summer of 2015 to stunned acclaim, it felt like an entire career compressed into one knock-out album. This unassuming northern Kentucky singer-songwriter sauntered and ripped through ten instant country classics that tracked as so confident and comfortable that it could have been mistaken for a seasoned musician's creative peak. The songs themselves, reverent of Americana's most enduring traditions, presented the man's scope - his misadventures, loves, failures, and contradictions. Hailed as ''Hard-scrabble Honky Tonk at its finest'' -Rolling Stone Country and a '';mind-blowingly good'' (Greg Vandy, KEXP) ''tutorial on classic country music'' (Popmatters), Pinnell's debut immediately differentiated as authentic and unflinching. Dogged touring through Europe and the states and celebrated radio sessions followed, cementing Pinnell's position as a no-fuss master of his craft, an expansive storyteller with a steady gaze and calloused fingers - and that one impossible-to-top album. If OH/KY was the self-assured introduction of an unconventional new talent, his 2017 album Ties of Blood and Affection presents a canny lateral move. Instead of doubling down on the stark themes and values of his debut, this sophomore album finds Pinnell finding comfort in his own skin and achieving the redemption only hinted at in his previous batch of haunted songs. Here Pinnell embraces the working life, family obligations, and openly evaluates his relationship to faith. His new stories delve into acceptance and survival, all the while investigating his most challenging chapter yet: adulthood. While ''If life don't get any better / I'm alright with this'' isn't an out-right triumph, it's an honest revelation. Musically, Ties of Blood and Affection also maintains a comfortable and confident stride. Pinnell's songs are shot through with honest and classic elements; rooted in his steady acoustic guitar, the tunes chug along in a spring-reverb dream fro

PETE TOWNSHEND - EMPTY GLASS PETE TOWNSHEND - EMPTY GLASS Limited Edition Heavyweight 180-Gram Clear Vinyl. Remastered At Abbey Road With Half-Speed Mastering Process. Considered by Pete Townshend to be his first 'real' solo album 'Empty Glass' was also to become his most commercially successful. Whereas 'Who Came First' was a devotional album and 'Rough Mix' a collaboration, Townshend had no such restrictions on this 1980 release. Coming after Keith Moon's death the album sees Townshend at his most emotional and rawest as he publicly acknowledges his own addictions and exorcises his demons. The album was written while Townshend was also trying to write new material for The Who and complaints were raised in some circles that he was keeping the best material for his solo work. The album certainly contains songs that would have worked for the band (a version of the title track was actually recorded by The Who) but the personal investment in the material by the composer shines through. The album spawned three singles including the top ten US smash 'Let My Love Open The Door' as well as 'Empty Glass' and 'A Little Is Enough'. Universal. 2017.

OTIS SHUGGIE - HERE COMES SHUGGIE OTIS OTIS SHUGGIE - HERE COMES SHUGGIE OTIS Discográfica:   8th Records Well before Shuggie Otis (Born Johnny Alexander Veliotes, Jr.) cut his debut album, musicianship and performance had long been a part of his life. The son of rhythm and blues legend Johnny Otis, Shuggie learned to play guitar as early as the age of two, and performed professionally with his father's band at eleven. Throughout his long and illustrious career he'd performed on records for the likes of Frank Zappa, Al Kooper, Etta James, and George Duke, to name a few. In spite of all this, widespread mainstream success eluded Shuggie for much of his career, though he'd penned the Brothers Johnson hit Strawberry Letter 23, and would experience a resurgence in 2013 with the reissue of his most famous album, Inspiration/Information. His career as a session musician stretched across many years, but his solo career started in 1970, with his full-length debut Here Comes Shuggie Otis. The album was produced and contained contributions by his father Johnny Otis, plus a potent roster of session greats like Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper, Leon Haywood, and Al McKibbon, to name but a few, with Shuggie himself at the helm, performing lead vocals, guitar, and various keys instruments. Here Comes Shuggie Otis is a hybrid of lush, baroque harpsichords and strings mixed with bouncing, hard edged funk and blues, reminiscent of a combination of 60s chamber pop and the best elements of Stax Records. Gritty and wild, while also lush and sprawling, Here Comes Shuggie Otis is a solid benchmark of production flair and improvisational aptitude. A1. Oxford Gray A2. Jennie Lee A3. Bootie Cooler A4. A 1.- "Modern Love" – 4:46 2.- "China Girl" (Bowie, Iggy Pop) – 5:32 3.- "Let's Dance" – 7:38 4.- "Without You" – 3:08 LADO B 1.- "Ricochet" – 5:14 2.- "Criminal World" (Peter Godwin, Duncan Browne, Sean Lyons) – 4:25 3.- "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" (Bowie, Giorgio Moroder) – 5:09 4.- "Shake It" – 3:49 " Let's Dance " is the title song from English singer David Bowie's 1983 album of the same name. It was also released as the first single from that album in 1983, and went on to become one of his biggest-selling tracks. Stevie Ray Vaughan played the guitar solo at the end of the song. The single was one of Bowie's fastest selling to date, entering the UK Singles Chart at number five on its first week of release, staying at the top of the charts for three weeks. Soon afterwards, the single topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Bowie's second and last single to reach number 1 in the U.S. In Oceania, it narrowly missed topping the Australian charts, peaking at number two, but peaked at number one for 4 consecutive weeks in New Zealand. The single became one of the best selling of the year across North America, Central Europe and Oceania. " Let's Dance " was described by Ed Power in the Irish Examiner as "a decent chunk of funk-rock". Writing for the BBC, David Quantick said "the combination of Bowie and Rodgers on the title track was perfect – Bowie’s epic lyric about dancing under 'serious moonlight' and the brilliant filching of the crescendo 'ahh!'s from the Beatles' version of the Isley Brothers' 'Twist and Shout' were masterstrokes, each welded to a loud, stadium-ised drum and bass sound". The song introduced Bowie to a new, younger audience oblivious to his former career in the 1970s. Although the track was his most popular to date, its very success had the incongruous effect of distancing Bowie from his new fans, with Bowie saying he did not know who they were or what they wanted. His next two albums, made as an attempt to cater to his new-found audience, suffered creatively as a result and Bowie cited them as the albums he was least satisfied with in his career. In 2007, Bowie gave R&B singer Craig David permission to sample the song for his single "Hot Stuff (Let's Dance)".

DEPARTED THE / O.S.T. - DEPARTED THE / O.S.T. DEPARTED THE / O.S.T. - DEPARTED THE / O.S.T. Discográfica:   Real Gone Music Arguing about which of Martin Scorsese's pictures is his best is fodder for an all-night bull session, but of one thing there can be no doubt: the guy is obsessed with music. Many of his greatest films have either been about music (e.g. The Last Waltz or the recent Dylan Rolling Thunder 'mockumentary') or have featured a veritable mixtape for a soundtrack; in fact, sometimes it's hard to tell which came first, the montage accompanying the music, or his desire to have a particular song appear in a movie come hell or high water. That's because nobody, but nobody, cuts film to a great rock and roll tune like Scorsese (and his legendary editor Thelma Schoonmaker); and of all his films, it's his lone Best Picture winner, The Departed, that arguably is propelled the most by its soundtrack. The Dropkick Murphys' 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston' during Leonardo DiCaprio's stint in jail is the real scene-stealer, but the version of 'Comfortably Numb' during his love scene with Vera Farmiga is another highlight, albeit a controversial one (folks either love it or hate it). The rest of the soundtrack lives up to those two selections'it's safe to say The Departed wouldn't have gotten its Best Picture nod without Scorsese's canny music choices. We're bringing it to vinyl for the first time inside a jacket and printed inner sleeve, and pressing up 1100 copies in a limited kelly green edition to honor the film's Boston Irish roots!

ORIG. Bob Dylan - harmonica Gene Clark - vocals David Crosby - guitar, harmony vocals Chris Hillman - bass Leland Sklar - bass David Vaught - bass Chris Ethridge - bass Bruce Johnston - piano, harmony vocals Spanky McFarlane - vocals Mike Wofford - piano Charles Lloyd - sax Hal Blane - percussion John Guerin - drums Jim Gordon - drums Michael Clarke - drums Jerry Cole - guitar Buddy Emmons - steel guitar Spooner Oldham - keyboards Charles Lloyd - saxophone The Jimmy Joyce Children Chorus - vocals     I'm So Restless My New Woman Lost My Drivin' Wheel Draggin' Time Cube Bag Full of Money Hannoi Hannah Stone Heave Away M'Linda The Water Is Wide Roger McGuinn's 1973 self-titled solo debut was in most respects a breath of fresh air after the final days of the Byrds, in which the group was floundering in directionless mediocrity. In a sense, it's a back-to-basics album that emphasizes much of what McGuinn does so well: his forceful reedy vocals, his guitar playing, and his skills at both writing earnest folk-rock material (usually with future Bob Dylan collaborator Jacques Levy here) and interpreting unusual traditional and contemporary songs. Never was it folkier than on the acoustic "I'm So Restless," which benefited from harmonica by Dylan himself (about whom the song was partially about). All four of the other original Byrds play on "My New Woman," which is virtually a reunion of the original quintet, with the addition of saxophone by jazzman Charles Lloyd; David Crosby makes unobtrusive cameos on some other tracks. As likable as it is, however, the album isn't an unqualified triumph. Some of the songs aren't so hot, some of the Moog synthesizer (by McGuinn) is unnecessary, his vocals sometimes seem to have been recorded with too much brittleness, and none of this is as good as the best of the Byrds. Unexpected influences make themselves heard in the Beach Boys harmonies of "Draggin'" (with Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys on piano and backup harmonies), the Vietnam blues of "Hanoi Hannah," and the gospel-rock of "Stone." The 2004 CD reissue adds two previously unissued bonus tracks: a solo acoustic cover of the traditional folk song "John, John" and a less pleasing cover of Jackson Browne 's "Jamaica, Say You Will." It also has historical liner notes with plenty of quotes on the sessions and songs from McGuinn himself. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

YOUNG NEIL & PROMISE OF - VISITOR YOUNG NEIL & PROMISE OF - VISITOR When Neil Young entered Shangri La Studio with the band Promise Of The Real a few months ago, there were a lot of images and feelings careening around his soul. The country was heading in a direction Young had never seen, even though up until then he thought he'd seen it all. But something different was happening, and it had gotten inside his music. I'm a Canadian by the way and I love the USA, he sings on the first song Already Great. The ethos of The Visitor can be summed up in the refrain of Already Great where Young insists, Already great, you're already great. You're the promise land, the helping hand. No wall. No hate. No fascist USA. WHOSE STREET? OUR STREET. From those words, Neil Young was ready to take a musical journey on his new album The Visitor like he had never taken before. It was one where he'd even surprise himself, always the mark of a creative leap. By the end of the recording sessions, he knew he'd made his most diverse album going all the way back to Harvest in 1972, when America was also in the throes of becoming unhinged. Neil Young didn't blink then, and he is not blinking now.

NITS - KNOT NITS - KNOT Discográfica:   Werf The new NITS album 'Knot', recorded in their own Werf studio in Amsterdam, will be released on November 22. Its 11 songs originated from three long sessions that produced some 20 hours of improvisation and text fragments. But whereas the band's previous album 'angst' was largely inspired by conversations between lyricist Henk Hofstede and his mother, 'Knot' covers a much broader range of topics, including experiences from his immediate environment, mixed with observations and fantasies. A dance party in Ostend connects Marvin Gaye with Belgian painter and printmaker James Ensor ('Dead Rat Ball'), clearing out the parental home evokes the work of British sculptor Rachel Whiteread ('The Concrete House'), and a character from a thriller inhabits the text of 'Music Box With Ballerina'. For 45 years, NITS has been the Netherlands' most elusive band with a truly awe-inspiring oeuvre. They are still on the road giving concerts full of dynamics, humour and virtuosity, infused with a deep European melancholy and performed with stylish versatility. 'Knot' will be available on CD, vinyl and streaming.

Bertrand Russell was one of the greatest logicians since Aristotle, and one of the most important philosophers of the past two hundred years. In this thorough examination, Alan Ryan tells the story of Russell's "other life" as social critic, polemical journalist, antiwar activist, sage and gadfly, dissenting from Russell's insistence that there was no connection between his philosophical interests and his political allegiances..
