Combining their various influences (including R&B, pop, dance, electronica),  Heaven 17  fused these styles together to made an almost perfect sound. A strong melody, stunning vocals from  Glenn Gregory, and tight production equal a fascinating glimpse into the human struggle. Adding a number of session players, including a guitarist,  Heaven 17  was able to expand and build on their solid sound.  Gregory  is also allowed to branch out on this album and write more personal and political statements that were not clearly heard on their first two albums. Fans will not be disappointed, and in fact, this could be the album to win new fans over. "Sunset Now," and "Flamedown," are just a few of the reasons for this ep greatness.

Originally intended to be sold alongside performances of LaVice Hendrick's ambitious but ill-fated musical theater production, the album's scarcity was swiftly ensured as Two Sisters From Bagdad ran for just two weeks at Detroit's Bethel A.M.E. church amid poor attendances due to scant promotion. With only a handful of copies sold in that brief window, many of the remaining copies were subsequently destroyed in a basement flood, meaning that until now few people have ever heard the album in it's entirety. A varied set of jazz and gospel infused funky soul, Two Sisters From Bagdad was composed and orchestrated by two precocious young talents, E.J. Garrison and Rhodia McAdoo. It's an album full of surprises, and is notorious for the heavy funk workout Though's Were The Days. Not only have Jazzman Records unearthed and faithfully reissued this true obscurity as the 26th part of their ongoing Holy Grail series, but through interviews with Garrison and McAdoo themselves, they have uncovered the beguiling back story to the music, the play and the life and times of it's original creator, the late LaVice Hendricks. JazzFest Berlin (also known as the Berlin Jazz Festival) is a jazz festival based in Berlin, Germany. Originally called the Berliner Jazztage (Berlin Jazz Days), until 1980 when the name was changed), it was founded in 1964. Also appearing that year were Herbie Mann, Carla Thomas, Don Cherry with Pharoah Sanders, Don Ellis (who makes a guest appearance with BAuger), Gary Burton, Elvin Jones, Muddy Waters with Otis Spann and other jazz luminaries. Whereas famous US-jazz celebrities set the tone during the first decades, the Berlin Jazz Festival increasingly has presented artists from all around the globe, with an increasing emphasis on contemporary European jazz. This performance by Brian Auger is also unique as it's the first appearance with Julie Driscoll so while a large portion of the audience applauded, wanting more of Brian, many booed when Julie Driscoll sang as her vocals and presence was a new element within the group. The festival's artistic concept has been to document, support, and validate trends in jazz, and to mirror the diversity of creative musical activity.
