RIVER CITY PEOPLE - THIS IS THE WORLD - VINILO ORIGINAL 1991 PRIMEA EDICION EMI RIVER CITY PEOPLE - THIS IS THE WORLD - VINILO ORIGINAL 1991 PRIMEA EDICION EMI River City People fue un grupo de folk-rock de vida y éxito efímeros. Con sus dos estupendos albumes, sonaron bastante en las emisoras del Reino Unido y otros países (España, entre ellos), y llegaron a actuar en varias ciudades europeas. Pero lo que condenó a la banda de Liverpool fue, probablemente, que llegaron tarde a la fiesta. La segunda mitad de los 80 fue un momento dulce para el pop-rock inglés e irlandés, que consolidó a grupos como U2, Simple Minds, Dire Straits o Simply Red. Pero los RCP se subieron al carro en 1989, cuando el movimiento languidecía, y a pocos meses de la explosión, al otro lado del Atlántico, del fenómeno grunge. La banda aguantó como pudo el desinterés por el folk-rock, y aunque llegó a lanzar en 1991 un segundo gran LP, acabó deshaciéndose pocos meses después. River City People - This Is The World [4:57] River City People were a folk rock quartet formed in Liverpool, England in 1986, by vocalist Siobhan Maher, guitarist Tim Speed, his drummer brother Paul Speed, and bassist Dave Snell. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". " This is the World " followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

Quienes vieron a Simple Minds actuar en aquella gira tuvieron la impresión de que la banda estaba cerrando un capítulo importante de su carrera, como si quisiera pasar página. Cuando en la primavera de 1987 se publica el doble álbum en vivo 'In the city of light', grabado en el Zenith de París, el grupo vuelve a acelerar los corazones de sus miles de fans. Sus cuatro caras contienen una hora y media de gran rock, una suma de toda la producción de la banda escocesa. Live In The City Of Light fue un disco en directo, editado en 1987, en donde se plasmaba la extensa gira del grupo por aquel entonces, grabado durante la actuación de 2 noches en París en 1986. El disco tuvo un gran éxito comercial pero no fue capaz de demostrar el gran directo de la banda. Tras la extenuante gira, el grupo decide tomarse un descanso. Después de 10 años sin pausa se necesitaba buscar un poco de calma. La banda estaba colocada entre las más grandes pero la presión llegó a ser terrible por lo que no tuvieron más remedio que parar antes de que el éxito les desbordara y sobrepasara. Durante estos años, Simple Minds fue un gran colaborador y divulgador de Amnistía Internacional. Live In The City Of Light is the first (double LP / CD) live album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. It was released in May 1987 to document their successful worldwide Once Upon a Time tour, and charted at No. 1 in the UK. The album spawned one chart single release, a live version of "Promised You a Miracle". The album was recorded mostly at Le Zénith, Paris in August 1986, with one track recorded in October 1986 in Sydney, Australia. (Although the album was not recorded there, the inside of the gatefold sleeve features a photograph of a concert from the 1986 tour which took place in a square in Locarno, Switzerland). It features the band's 1986 touring lineup, which included second vocalist Robin Clark and percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos. Lisa Germano (at the time, a John Mellencamp band member who would perform on Simple Minds' next studio single, Belfast Child), contributed studio-overdubbed violin on "Someone Somewhere in Summertime" and former Simple Minds member Derek Forbes contributed  bass guitar overdubs. Live In The City Of Light was released as a double vinyl album with the band's logo in gold lettering over black sleeve. The package featured a 12" x 12" attached giant-sized booklet with state-of-the-art photography of the band's performance and outdoor session pictures. This art could not be reproduced faithfully on later CD releases (an original 1st pressing on double-fat jewel case and the USA version packaged in a long box on two separate discs). Algo así le ocurrió a un grupazo de nombre River City People. La década de los ochenta fue extraña. Mucha música y mucha experimentación con las nuevas tecnologías que se reproducían por momentos, algunos de ellos efímeros... En esa maraña musical podía salir a la luz casi cualquier cosa. Y ese inmenso bosque camufló la música que siempre existió y ha ido evolucionando poco a poco hasta nuestros días. Es ese pop folk, estilo Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, 10.000 Maniacs... A esa fiesta se apuntó River City People con dos trabajos estupendos: "Say Something Good" del año 1989 y " This Is The World" del 1991, demostrando estar en la línea de los anteriores grupos nombrados... Pero los inicios de los noventa vivieron un fenómeno Grunge que lo inundó todo. Un fenómeno musical interesante, que aportó mucho a la música, pero que fagocitó todo el pop y parte del rock a su paso. Entre los damnificados, esos grupos de pop folk estilo RCP. El sonido sucio del Grunge, de una generacion desencantada, no dejaba lugar a las melodías folkies que versionaba el California Dreamin '... Eso, y los problemas internos del grupo, por supuesto, terminaron con la carrera de un grupo que tenía muy buenas hechuras, con temas de muchísima calidad como " Walking on Ice " y un discazo impresionante como Say Something God...   Del primer trabajo salio esta maravillosa cancion que fue single,  WALKING ON ICE, aqui esta la version extendida de 12". This date has been released under various titles over the years since its original inception as  Teddy Charles' New Directions Quartet Featuring Booker Little and Booker Ervin. Most of the material is straight-ahead bop under the leadership of vibraphonist  Teddy Charles  with  Mal Waldron  on piano,  Addison Farmer  on bass, and Ed Shaunesssy on drums. This is a noteworthy reissue considering that there are so few instances of  Little 's lyrical trumpet style and  Ervin 's passionate tenor recorded together. Original compositions include  Ervin 's "Scoochie,"  Little 's "The Confined Few" and "Witch Fire," Shaunessy's "Blues de Tambour," pianist  Ahmad Jamal 's "Cycles," plus the standard "Stardust" (receiving an especially melancholy treatment.) The only complaint is the lack of liner notes, which excludes information on personnel and session history.
