FLAMING LIPS - SOFT BULLETIN LIVE AT RED FLAMING LIPS - SOFT BULLETIN LIVE AT RED On May 26, 2016 The Flaming Lips performed their classic album The Soft Bulletin in its entirety with the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. The Flaming Lips (Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd, Michael Ivins, Derek Brown, Jake Ingalls, Matt Kirksey and Nicholas Ley) were accompanied by a 69-piece orchestra and 56-strong Chorus. The performance was conducted by the internationally celebrated conductor Andre de Ridder. The Flaming Lips performed the 12-track album in its original sequence with new arrangements for each song that use the orchestra and chorus to great effect. This entire concert was produced by The Flaming Lips, Scott Booker and their long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann. The resulting live album is being released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Soft Bulletin, originally released in 1999. The album was the band’s breakthrough moment and featured the hit singles “Race For The Prize” and “Waitin’ for a Superman”.

En su llamado período comercial, Bowie cambia de discográfica (hasta la fecha había sido RCA), firmando un contrato multimillonario con EMI y graba el que será su disco más vendido: Let's Dance, producido por Nile Rodgers de la banda Chic. The song introduced Bowie to a new, younger audience oblivious to his former career in the 1970s. Although the track was his most popular to date, its very success had the incongruous effect of distancing Bowie from his new fans, with Bowie saying he did not know who they were or what they wanted.His next two albums, made as an attempt to cater to his new-found audience, suffered creatively as a result and Bowie cited them as the albums he was least satisfied with in his career. In 2007, Bowie gave R&B singer Craig David permission to sample the song for his single "Hot Stuff (Let's Dance)".

FISCHER Z - GOING RED FOR A SALAD (THE UA YEARS) VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION EMI ENGLAND 1990 FISCHER Z - GOING RED FOR A SALAD (THE UA YEARS) VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION EMI ENGLAND 1990 En una época en la que muchas bandas resultaban inclasificables, Fischer Z destaca por su particular estilo a medio camino entre el Punk, el Reggae y la New Wave. En Inglaterra se les comparó rápidamente con Talking Heads, pero fue en Alemania y Austria donde este grupo causó furor más que en su tierra natal. Hablar de Fischer Z es hablar, en cierto modo, de su líder y fundador John Watts, un músico intelectual y enigmático que supo combinar melodías pegadizas con letras de marcado carácter psicológico, social y político. El grupo lo forma en 1976 junto a su compañero de estudios Steve Skolnik. Completarían la banda el bajista David Graham y el batería Steve Liddle. Era una época en la que el punk arrasaba con todo en Inglaterra y sin embargo Fischer Z ofrecían algo más. Primero porque John Watts era un tipo muy culto y muy preocupado por los problemas sociales del momento. El estilo de Fischer Z fue rápidamente comparado como decíamos  con Talking Heads o The Police. En 1979 lanzaron su primer disco “Word Salad”, que incluía temas como el que acabamos de oír, y lograron una actuación en directo para el mítico programa musical británico “Top of the Pops”. Esta actuación resulta un desastre y perjudica a las ventas del disco. En 1980 llegará “ So Long ”, probablemente su canción más conocida gracias a la cual todavía conservan cierta fama. A mediados de ese mismo año Skolnik, el teclista, abandona el grupo y éste queda reducido a un trío en el Watts plasta definitivamente todas sus obsesiones. Aquí llegaría su disco más destacado “Red Skies Over Paradise”, un trabajo cuya inspiración reside en la guerra fría y la amenaza nuclear. Otro tema impresionante de este gran disco es “ Berlin ”. Llegados a 1990, su antigua compañía de discos la EMI Electrola Records lanza al mercado un disco recopilatorio bajo el titulo de Going red for a salad (The UA years). Este disco recopilatorio venia a recoger los mayores éxitos de la banda a lo largo de su paso por esta compañía de discos, destacando los mejores temas también de los primeros álbumes de John Watts. Dos años mas tarde de nuevo se vuelve a editar un nuevo disco de la banda bajo el titulo de Destination paradise. Con este trabajo la formación se consolido como una de las mejores de la época, ya que las temáticas de las letras hablaban de lo cotidiano, desde la guerra del golfo hasta canciones de amor en clave de humor. Tras este disco comienzan una nueva y extensa gira mundial, con la única intención de captar nuevo fans. The original line-up consisted of Watts (vocals, guitar), Skolnik (keyboards), David Graham (bass) and Steve Liddle (drums). The band's name is pronounced "fɪʃə zɛd" (fisher zed), a pun on "fish's head" with the "h" dropped, as is usual in many British regional accents. The pun also relies on leaving the "r" unpronounced as in common British non-rhotic accents. Fischer-Z's first hit was "The Worker" from the album Word Salad which firmly established Watts' ability to convey worldly political issues in narrative songs against a background of quirky pop and reggae-influenced music. In an interview in Record Mirror in 1981, Watts put this down to the remix of the song from the album version, which put the emphasis on the keyboards rather than his guitar. Skolnik departed after their second album Going Deaf for a Living, leaving Watts to take over keyboards. Watts' lyrics draw heavily on his experiences of studying clinical psychology and as a mental health care worker. Several songs on their third album Red Skies Over Paradise in 1981, such as "Berlin" and "Red Skies Over Paradise" were about the Cold War and the song "Cruise Missiles" was about the nuclear arms race and the mutual threat of the superpowers with nuclear war. Fischer-Z were more popular in mainland Europe than their native UK, especially in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Portugal (two top 10 hits and a No. 3 album). Fischer-Z were also successful in Australia, where they achieved two Top 20 hits with "So Long" from the album Going Deaf for a Living and "The Perfect Day" from Reveal.[2] After the album Red Skies over Paradise Watts dissolved the band in mid-1981, deciding his art could not evolve within a band context.

This Frank Zappa-oriented release is part of the series, although this particular compilation is also geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. These two labels were manufactured and distributed by Reprise Records. This Frank Zappa-oriented 'Zapped' release is the 6th issue in the series, a compilation geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. (These two labels were manufactured and distributed for Reprise Records by Warner Bros. Records from mid 1969 [Previously 7Arts]). The black & white cover of this PRO 368 release has a portrait of Zappa and the title is "Zapped" without an accent over the 'e' (as on a subsequent/similar PRO 368 release with a 'collage' cover & Reprise label). This vinyl's label is pale blue with a dark blue 'Bizarre' text. Issues did occasionally appear later in retail outlets, particularly in Australia.

Johannes Schmoelling's influence is really felt for the first time here; Tangram, for all its crispness and melody, was simply a refinement of Force Majeure's principles, and the soundtrack to Thief not an album proper. On Exit, listeners are introduced to electronic music's next generation, notably on "Choronzon" and "Network 23," which brought the sound of the dancefloor into the mix (it hasn't left since). That's not to suggest that Tangerine Dream has stopped creating eerie, evocative music; both "Pilots of Purple Twilight" and the stately "Exit" will feel familiar to fans, and the opening "Kiew Mission" is a captivating commentary on nuclear war that includes vocals after a sort (a woman's voice reading locations in Russian). Exit ends on a surprisingly dark note, the alien and foreboding "Remote Viewing." It's on this track more than any other that Tangerine Dream returns to its past, invoking Phaedra and the sequencer-driven works that followed, as if to tell fans that Exit's changes weren't the result of a new band, just a new direction. With one foot in the excesses of the past and one clearly on the road to a more concise sound, Exit is a transitional work. As Schmoelling and, later, Paul Haslinger exerted their influence on Tangerine Dream's music, the emphasis shifted from dark and moody commentary to more positive subjects. It's worth noting that Edgar Froese's social conscience fuels much of Exit -- copies of the record were made available to a cross-section of Russian citizens free of charge to promote an open exchange of ideas at a time when nuclear annihilation was taken seriously. Future albums channeled Froese's activism to environmental concerns, which dovetailed with the band's by-then new age sensibilities. Both here and on White Eagle, Tangerine Dream ushers in the promise and the peril of a new world where reality has caught up with science fiction. Perhaps with such a message, the medium needed to be simpler and more direct.

However, "In My Heart" became Texas's last song to date to chart in the United States, peaking at #14 on the Billboard Hot Rock Tracks chart. The song also reached #44 in France. The release of a third single was based entirely on the success of the band in countries such as France, Spain and other European countries, as the band's singles were doing particularly poorly in their native United Kingdom. The third single, " Alone with You ", saw Texas return to the UK Singles Charts Top 40 (for the first time since their debut single three years earlier), peaking at #32. The single also continued the success of the band in France, reaching #28. The fourth and final single, a remix of the title track "Mothers Heaven" was released in 1992, but failed to chart in any countries. Ironically, after the disappointing performance of singles from the album, the band then released a new cover version of the Al Green classic "Tired of Being Alone", which returned them to the UK Top 20. The track was not available on any album until the band's Greatest Hits album released in 2000. Mothers Heaven is the band's lowest charting album in the UK where it remains uncertified, however, it has been certified Gold in both France and Switzerland. Just as  ELO 's follow-up to the sweeping  Discovery  seemed tame by comparison, so  The Present  failed to match the grandiose arrangements of  the Moodies ' previous record. It's still a solid effort, bolstered by strong songwriting and pleasant melodies, but as good as the opening "Blue World" is, its downbeat message is no substitute for the clarion call of "The Voice."  The Present  seems to make a conscious effort to scale back the arena-size sound of their previous album, returning to the warmly rendered ballads of old.  Patrick Moraz, whose keyboards were a revelation on  Long Distance Voyager, plays a diminished role here, as  Justin Hayward 's guitar takes more of the lead, suggesting a poor man's  Phil Manzanera  or  David Gilmour. While it charted well and provided hit singles in "Blue World" and "Sitting at the Wheel" (again, it's  John Lodge  who provides the most invigorating track),  The Present  is a gift that listeners will need to warm up to over time. Only after several sittings do  Hayward 's lush ballads like "Meet Me Halfway" and "Running Water" sink in. Following the format of their last effort, the closing tracks are given to  Ray Thomas, who once more proves a compelling presence (he's also the only good thing about "Going Nowhere"). "I Am" and "Sorry" amount to little more than love songs, but  Thomas ' sense for dramatic arrangements manages to elevate the musical discussion. Given the now infrequent release of new albums by  the Moody Blues, more could have been expected from  The Present, but less could have been achieved (as the disappointing  Keys of the Kingdom  demonstrated). If it's merely average by  Moodies  standards, at least  The Present  didn't bode ill for the future.

A varied set of jazz and gospel infused funky soul, Two Sisters From Bagdad was composed and orchestrated by two precocious young talents, E.J. Garrison and Rhodia McAdoo. It's an album full of surprises, and is notorious for the heavy funk workout Though's Were The Days. Not only have Jazzman Records unearthed and faithfully reissued this true obscurity as the 26th part of their ongoing Holy Grail series, but through interviews with Garrison and McAdoo themselves, they have uncovered the beguiling back story to the music, the play and the life and times of it's original creator, the late LaVice Hendricks. In 1952, Guthrie wrote and recorded a song at home titled ''I Don't Like The Way This World's A-Treatin' Me.'' The track appears on vinyl for the first time on a limited edition 10'' of the same name for Record Store Day 2019. Also found on this special release is a second version of the demo with new accompaniment from Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, who, along with Billy Bragg and Wilco, released a series of acclaimed albums featuring their interpretations of unearthed Guthrie lyrics. Mermaid Avenue, the first in the series, was nominated for a Grammy in 2000. If those two tracks weren't enough, I Don't Like The Way This World's Treatin' Me includes two versions of ''Beech Haven Ain't My Home'' (aka ''Old Man Trump''), whose lyrics were discovered within the Woody Guthrie Archives and chronicle the time the Guthrie family lived under landlord Fred Trump. As two drafts of the lyrics exist, the Riot-Folk Musician's Collective's Ryan Harvey combined them, with music composed by Johnny Irion (husband and musical partner of Woody's granddaughter Sarah Lee Guthrie). This release contains a version by Harvey featuring Ani DiFranco and Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine/Auidoslave), and another from Irion's band U.S. Elevator. Available exclusively for Record Store Day as a 10'' EP, I Don't Like The Way This World's A-Treatin' Me is not only an historic, but a musical document, released in conjunction and with full cooperation from the Woody Guthrie Archives. It was favourably received by NME and received airplay from DJ John Peel. More of their early recordings were later released as the album Propaganda in 1999.

It was produced by Ian Stanley and released by Capitol Records in the US and Polydor in the UK on 26 October 1987. It contained the hits " From the Hip ", " My Bag ", and " Jennifer She Said ". Although the album reached number nine in the UK, it failed to chart in America and was not embraced by all critics: Mainstream is the only Lloyd Cole and the Commotions release not to sell at least 100,000 copies in the US. The album took two years to make as finding a producer proved difficult. The band first went with Chris Thomas, when that did not work out they brought in Stewart Copeland. With Copeland they only recorded one track, " Hey Rusty ", then finally found Ian Stanley. Donegan reflected in 2004 that "with the previous LP, Easy Pieces, we had tried to broaden out and make more of a pop record and it hadn't really worked. It sounded rushed and the songs were not all up to standard. So, a year after Easy Pieces, we went into the studio to try and make something more powerful. But the LP that we actually made took so long that we lost our initial vision by the time we finished it. The songs that Lloyd was writing were more introspective, so the stadium rock idea gradually went out the window." COLOURBOX: THE OFFICIAL COLOURBOX WORLD CUP THEME [UK 1986] 7' COLOURBOX: THE OFFICIAL COLOURBOX WORLD CUP THEME [UK 1986] 7' Colourbox   "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme"  single 7" (4AD)  1986  made in UK cat. num.  AD 605 #synth pop   A The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme 3:06 B Philip Glass 3:29   One of the legendary 4AD label's earliest and most under-recognized acts,  Colourbox  were among the first artists outside of the realm of hip-hop to rely heavily on sampling techniques; ultimately, their arty blue-eyed soul -- a fusion of far-ranging influences spanning from classic R&B to dub to industrial -- reached its commercial and creative apotheosis through their work on  M/A/R/R/S ' seminal "Pump Up the Volume" project, a reflection of the group's longstanding interest in the burgeoning underground dance music scene of the 1980s.  Colourbox  were primarily the work of London-based brothers Martyn and  Steven Young, who recruited vocalist  Debbion Currie  to sing on their 1982 4AD debut, "Breakdown."  Curry  was replaced by  Lorita Grahame  in time for the trio's 1983 re-recording of the same track, this time produced by  Mick Glossop.  Colourbox 's self-titled debut EP -- a collection of dub and scratching experiments heralding their first plunge into sampling technology, edited down from three hours of studio sessions -- appeared later that same year, with the single "Say You" following in 1984. After another 12", "Punch," the group issued 1985's "The Moon Is Blue," a teaser for its upcoming full-length LP, also a self-titled affair; "Baby I Love You So" and "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme" both appeared the following year.  In 1987, at the behest of 4AD chief  Ivo Watts-Russell, the Young brothers teamed with labelmates  A.R. Kane  as  M/A/R/R/S  to record a single fusing the rhythms and beats from classic soul recordings with state of the art electronics and production. Complete with scratches by champion mixer  Chris "C.J." Mackintosh  and London  DJ Dave Dorrell, "Pump Up the Volume" -- a breakthrough effort heralding sampling's gradual absorption from hip-hop into dance music and ultimately the pop mainstream -- soon topped the British charts, the first 4AD release to accomplish that feat. Plans for a follow-up never materialized, however; stranger still, despite  M/A/R/R/S ' success, both the Youngs and  Colourbox seemed to vanish, with no future recordings forthcoming.

HUMAN LEAGUE - HISTERIA - ALBUM VINILO ORIGINAL 1984 PRIMERA EDICION VIRGIN RECORDS HUMAN LEAGUE - HISTERIA - ALBUM VINILO ORIGINAL 1984 PRIMERA EDICION VIRGIN RECORDS En 1984 sale “ Hysteria ”, el grupo parece que quiere hacer un pop mas organico, menos electrónico y menos energico que el ofrecido anteriormente,  contiene tres singles: la sorprendente “ the lebannon ” tanto por las guitarras muy cercanas al rock como por la letra muy política, esta claro que el publico del grupo, acostumbrado a cosas mas ligeras, quedo impactado con esta cancion como adelanto del nuevo album, en la cara b de este single nos encontramos la instrumental " thirteen " que en mi opinion debio ir en el album pues es un tema muy bueno. El invernal medio tiempo “ life on your own ” es quizas el sonido que hubiese sido ideal para todo el album y para diferenciarse de su anterior etapa, sin embargo se trata de un caso mas bien aislado. Luego tenemos la excelente balada “ louise ”, una bonita cancion que parece la segunda parte de " don't you want me " por la letra y que tiene unos bajos envolventes que son una pura delicia. Quizas podriamos añadir a los tres singles del album el tema " so hurt " una cancion muy bien construida con el dramatismo justo y un uso inteligente de los sintetizadores. El pop esta muy presente en el álbum, por ejemplo " i'm coming back ", cabe preguntarse como habrían sonado estas canciones con la producción de Martin Rushent. Jo Callis, deja la banda en medio de la promocion de " Hysteria " poco despues seria sustituido por el bateria Jim Russel que no iba a durar demasiado en el grupo. En medio de esta epoca problematica Phil Oakey disfruto de un momento dulce al colaborar con uno de sus idolos Giorgio Moroder en el single "together in electric dreams" tema principal de la pelicula "electric dreams", este single inesperadamente tuvo un exito masivo, tanto que se planeo un album completo para desarrollar esta colaboracion. Following the worldwide success of their 1981 album Dare, the band struggled to make a successful follow-up and the sessions for Hysteria were fraught with problems. The album name itself is taken from the problematic recording period. Producers Martin Rushent and Chris Thomas both left the project which would eventually be finished by producer Hugh Padgham. By the time Hysteria was released, three years had passed since Dare and the album met with relatively lacklustre success in comparison to its multi-platinum predecessor. Three singles from the album made the top-twenty of the UK singles chart but none of them reached the top-ten and " The Lebanon " was the only single to chart in the US, stalling at number sixty-four on the Billboard Hot 100. The album peaked at number three in the UK, later being certified Gold by the BPI for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. In 2005, Hysteria was remastered and re-issued with B-sides and extended mixes as bonus tracks. The song "Rock Me Again And Again And Again And Again And Again And Again " is a cover of a 1973 song by Lyn Collins and James Brown. " I Love You Too Much " is a re-recorded version from the Fascination! EP and " Don't You Know I Want You " is a reworked version of the instrumental B-side "Total Panic!" that appeared on the "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" single in 1983.

After leaving the Virgin label, and a one-off album with Chrysalis, Simple Minds took stock and decided to make records for themselves. An album of cover versions of songs dear to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, Neon Lights, was released in 2001, followed by Cry in 2002, an album of new compositions recorded in Glasgow and Sicily. The recordings for Black and White 050505 were completed on the 5th May 2005, hence the title. This album and Neon Lights and Cry make their first appearances on vinyl in this box set, with specially-created outer and inner sleeves, and include some exclusive bonus tracks from the CD releases. Graffiti Soul continued the band's return to the top, charting at # 10 in May 2009. Big Music was released in October 2014, charting at #12. All the albums are pressed on different coloured 180 gram vinyl, and the rigid slipcase features a brand new note by Jim Kerr.

In looking at how this September 1997 tour was structured, this could have been a show to skip - or maybe not. This was the fourth show in a row to open the tour, on a Monday night, involved crossing an international border, at a real small place so it might be real crowded. All of that could keep some from making the trip, but for others, those were exactly the reasons to go...and possibly collect the rewards for doing so. The band just seems to have a knack to know when the fans have gone out of their way and really paid some dues to make it. Or when a local crowd gets it. In either case, and in terms of this Montreal 1997 show, both cases, Widespread Panic gets off on that and then seems to go that extra mile.

Euphoria sits at the crossroads of a very exciting time in the early 1990s when artists like Seefeel, Moonshake, and Aphex Twin were mining emerging technologies and pushing British music in new directions. A leftfield electronic pop album without peer, Euphoria incorporates programmed beats, elements of neoclassical minimalism, and the soothing voice and acerbic lyrics of singer Kirsty Yates into a memorable and masterful collection of songs that sound Like nothing else, either then or now. Reviews at the time reference composers like Steve Reich and Brian Eno as well as groups like My Bloody Valentine and AR Kane and describe it as being both ''danceable'' and ''ambient''. Originally released on 4AD offshoot label Guernica (Unrest, Bettie Serveert, Spoonfed Hybrid), it made many year-end lists in 1993 and demands rediscovery and reappraisal in 2019 given our current era of genre-splicing experimentation. Licensed from 4AD and remastered by Julian Tardo from HD audio files transferred from the original tapes, the LP will feature the original packaging as well as a new insert with press clippings from the era and liner notes by Simon Reynolds, who coined the term ''post-rock'' while writing about the group in 1993. The band's second record HIGH HAT was produced by Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy and released on Earle's Warner Brothers imprint label E-Squared Record. A 20th anniversary reissue of HIGH HAT on cd, digital and vinyl (for the first time) was released in March 2018 and a brand new and 4th full length studio record TOP OF THE WORLD featuring founding members and leaders Kenny Roby and Rob Keller along with new members Dan Davis and Luis Rodriguez was released the following summer. The Jag Sessions recordings are a collection of unreleased rarities and record quality demos recorded by Byron McCay at Jag Studios in Raleigh, NC made between 1996 and 1998 that previously have only been circulated among fans and as digtially as a low flying cd releases for sale at shows. This release is the first time any versions of this collection and versions of these songs have been available on vinyl. Some of the collection is made up of songs originally recorded for Columbia Records in 1996 for a demo deal with the label that never came to fruition. The songs from 1998 in the set are songs that were recorded for pro demos and potential release as a follow up to HIGH HAT as an EP. Pressed on red vinyl, the album comes with download card that features 2 extra songs.

Well, despite the subhead on the album proclaiming them as 'The Newest Teen-Age Singing Group,' they didn't'but that didn't stop the label execs at Decca Records from trying to cash in on the new CBS hit TV show! Veteran producers Joe Hooven and Hal Winn had the good sense to hire the Wrecking Crew (most notably Glen Campbell and Leon Russell) to play this surf-tinged set of songs, and brought in The Go-Go's (nope, not those Go-Go's, they were just out of diapers'this was a male vocal trio that cut one LP for RCA back in 1964, the same year this record came out) to sing the lyrics to such gems as 'You Created a Monster' and 'Make It Go Away.' The whole thing is a hoot, and a highly collectible hoot at that'original copies of this album command 'monstrous' sums! Aaron Kannowski remastered our reissue, and for this vinyl reissue, we've pressed up a limited edition of 1000 copies in ghoulish gray vinyl'get ready to do the Munster creep this Halloween and beyond!
