SIMPLE MINDS - REJUVENATION 2001-2014 VINYL B SIMPLE MINDS - REJUVENATION 2001-2014 VINYL B Limited six colored vinyl LP pressing. After leaving the Virgin label, and a one-off album with Chrysalis, Simple Minds took stock and decided to make records for themselves. An album of cover versions of songs dear to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, Neon Lights, was released in 2001, followed by Cry in 2002, an album of new compositions recorded in Glasgow and Sicily. The recordings for Black and White 050505 were completed on the 5th May 2005, hence the title. This album and Neon Lights and Cry make their first appearances on vinyl in this box set, with specially-created outer and inner sleeves, and include some exclusive bonus tracks from the CD releases. Graffiti Soul continued the band's return to the top, charting at # 10 in May 2009. Big Music was released in October 2014, charting at #12. All the albums are pressed on different coloured 180 gram vinyl, and the rigid slipcase features a brand new note by Jim Kerr.

Quienes vieron a Simple Minds actuar en aquella gira tuvieron la impresión de que la banda estaba cerrando un capítulo importante de su carrera, como si quisiera pasar página. Cuando en la primavera de 1987 se publica el doble álbum en vivo 'In the city of light', grabado en el Zenith de París, el grupo vuelve a acelerar los corazones de sus miles de fans. It was released in May 1987 to document their successful worldwide Once Upon a Time tour, and charted at No. 1 in the UK. The album spawned one chart single release, a live version of "Promised You a Miracle". The album was recorded mostly at Le Zénith, Paris in August 1986, with one track recorded in October 1986 in Sydney, Australia. (Although the album was not recorded there, the inside of the gatefold sleeve features a photograph of a concert from the 1986 tour which took place in a square in Locarno, Switzerland). It features the band's 1986 touring lineup, which included second vocalist Robin Clark and percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos. Lisa Germano (at the time, a John Mellencamp band member who would perform on Simple Minds' next studio single, Belfast Child), contributed studio-overdubbed violin on "Someone Somewhere in Summertime" and former Simple Minds member Derek Forbes contributed  bass guitar overdubs. Live In The City Of Light was released as a double vinyl album with the band's logo in gold lettering over black sleeve. The package featured a 12" x 12" attached giant-sized booklet with state-of-the-art photography of the band's performance and outdoor session pictures. This art could not be reproduced faithfully on later CD releases (an original 1st pressing on double-fat jewel case and the USA version packaged in a long box on two separate discs). Given the sadly neglected status of the band's early catalog -- meaning anything that was released prior to 1982's breakthrough  New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)  -- through the early 2000s, it is doubly unfortunate that a compilation like this remained out of print for an extended period of time. And though the studio albums remained in print in the U.K.,  Simple Minds ' early years hardly received the red carpet compilation treatment that their later works did. While nothing here came close to approaching the stadium-pleasing popularity of later smashes like "Don't You (Forget About Me)," "Alive and Kicking," or even "Promised You a Miracle,"  Celebration  might provide a little shock to an initiated someone who snaps up a copy. It's a near-definite that plenty of people who own  New Gold Dream  and/or the  Glittering Prize 81/92 compilation remain oblivious to the fact that  Simple Minds  released five albums that ranged from good to spectacular between 1979 and 1981, before  New Gold Dream  came along with its perfect balance of art and pop to connect with a mass audience. Not only was 1979-1981 a prolific period for the band, but it was a period that witnessed them blossoming from a decent guitar-based post-punk band to a far more rhythmic and experimental entity that gradually shed their influences while ambitiously building on them. And as the few brave souls who have remained devout  Simple Minds  fans from day one might tell you,  Celebration  has stood the test of time better than  Glittering Prize  track-for-track.

Pero lo que condenó a la banda de Liverpool fue, probablemente, que llegaron tarde a la fiesta. La segunda mitad de los 80 fue un momento dulce para el pop-rock inglés e irlandés, que consolidó a grupos como U2, Simple Minds, Dire Straits o Simply Red. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". " This is the World " followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

Over the years they have developed a simple musical formula: bass and drums putting down a funky, locked-in groove, luscious and slippery blues guitar runs coupled with sophisticated keyboard washes, tightly syncopated horns, and sweet, angelic backup harmonies. Lyrics are simple, heart-felt and true, and come from the been there, done that school of hard knocks, delivered with equal helpings of heartach and humor. In the early 70's, with the arrival of arranger Wardell Quezergue, Malaco claimed its first major hit with King Floyd's Groove Me. Jones  (11-12-44, Memphis) son el esqueleto de las grabaciones del sello Stax y uno de los  equipos de sonido más impecables de los años 60, tanto por su respaldo instrumental de otros artistas como a nivel de grupo.  Esos chicos blancos y negros representaban oficialmente el sonido de Memphis. The MGs eran incansables: trabajaban como grupo en directo de Otis Redding, y en sus ratos libres estaban en el estudio de grabación para registrar sus temas o también versiones de otras canciones. A finales de los sesenta, The MGs empezaron a adoptar un estilo más ligero y menos blues, enfilando una serie de éxitos consecutivos: 'Hip hughery Groovin'', en 1967, 'Soul limbo' y 'Hang'em high', en 1968, y 'Time is tight', en 1969. Este último tema era parte de la banda sonora escrita por Booker T. para la película, comprometida con el movimiento negro, 'Uptight'.  Sin duda, este disco, es uno de los imprescindibles de finales de los 60's. En 1969, grabó "New Routes", un álbum grabado en los famosos estudios Muscle Shoals.Un disco curioso y raro de encontrar, en el se incluía una buenísima versión de " Mr. Bojangles ", de Jerry Jeff Walker. Grabado entre el 10 de septiembre y el 2 de octubre de 1969, fue una de las primeras grabaciones de aquellos míticos estudios. Y claro lo mejor y lo que mas me entusiasma del asunto es que en el disco Lulu contó con Duane Allman en las guitarras. Mi entusiasmo por encontrarme este disco es evidente, ya que adquiero todo lo que toque de cerca o de lejos a los Allman. El disco contaba con temas como la canción " Oh Me Oh My (I'm a Fool For You Baby) " que obtuvo cierto éxito. Una buena versión de " Feelin' Alright " de Dave Mason. "Dirty Old Man" de Delaney Bramlett, etc... Por lo que se puede apreciar a simple vista; muy buen gusto tenia esta majisima señorita. El disco también contó con Barry Edward Beckett en los teclados, un hombre que que trabajó como músico de sesión con los artistas mas grandes. James Luther "Jim" Dickinson al piano y las guitarras, un hombre que no necesita presentación,simplemente recordar que sus hijos, Luther y Cody han seguido sus pasos con éxito,tanto con North Mississippi All Stars, como como Hill Country Revue y The Black Crowes. Y que el piano en " Wild Horses" de los Stones es el! El gran Cornell Dupree tambien se ocupo de las guitarras, junto a Charlie Figueroa y Eddie Hinton este ultimo guitarra de Aretha Franklin, Solomon Burke, The Staple Singers y Elvis Presley entre muchos. Al bajo David Hood, otro con un curriculum que echa de espalda, y su hijo, Patterson Hood, es uno de Drive-By Truckers. Michael Utley con el organo, un hombre muy apegado a Rita Coolidge y Kris Kristofferson. Como se puede ver Lulu tuvo a la creme de la creme en su disco, y como productores tampoco se quedo corta: Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin y Tom Dowd. Nada mas y nada menos! Como ven nuestra Lulu,se lo monto divinamente en este disco y un año más tarde, lanzo un álbum similar, "Melody Fair". Ambos se registraron en el sello Atco y son piezas muy buscadas Lulu siempre siguió en el negocio del espectáculo,consiguiendo éxitos nada desdeñables, aunque su estilo siempre ha derivado hacia un pop muy comercial, siempre quedaran estos discos que grabo en los Muscle Shoals.
