Con sus dos estupendos albumes, sonaron bastante en las emisoras del Reino Unido y otros países (España, entre ellos), y llegaron a actuar en varias ciudades europeas. Pero lo que condenó a la banda de Liverpool fue, probablemente, que llegaron tarde a la fiesta. La segunda mitad de los 80 fue un momento dulce para el pop-rock inglés e irlandés, que consolidó a grupos como U2, Simple Minds, Dire Straits o Simply Red. Pero los RCP se subieron al carro en 1989, cuando el movimiento languidecía, y a pocos meses de la explosión, al otro lado del Atlántico, del fenómeno grunge. La banda aguantó como pudo el desinterés por el folk-rock, y aunque llegó a lanzar en 1991 un segundo gran LP, acabó deshaciéndose pocos meses después. River City People - This Is The World [4:57] River City People were a folk rock quartet formed in Liverpool, England in 1986, by vocalist Siobhan Maher, guitarist Tim Speed, his drummer brother Paul Speed, and bassist Dave Snell. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". " This is the World " followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

A 20th anniversary reissue of HIGH HAT on cd, digital and vinyl (for the first time) was released in March 2018 and a brand new and 4th full length studio record TOP OF THE WORLD featuring founding members and leaders Kenny Roby and Rob Keller along with new members Dan Davis and Luis Rodriguez was released the following summer. The Jag Sessions recordings are a collection of unreleased rarities and record quality demos recorded by Byron McCay at Jag Studios in Raleigh, NC made between 1996 and 1998 that previously have only been circulated among fans and as digtially as a low flying cd releases for sale at shows. This release is the first time any versions of this collection and versions of these songs have been available on vinyl. Some of the collection is made up of songs originally recorded for Columbia Records in 1996 for a demo deal with the label that never came to fruition. The songs from 1998 in the set are songs that were recorded for pro demos and potential release as a follow up to HIGH HAT as an EP. Joining  Adderley  for the six tracks here are fellow  Davis  alumni  Philly Joe Jones  on drums and  Bill Evans  on piano. These three are augmented by the wonderful and often-underrated  Blue Mitchell  on trumpet and the equally illustrious  Sam Jones  on bass. Everyone is in top form on a varied set that takes in two  Adderley  originals (the fine ballad "Straight Life" and "A Little Taste"), a classic  Gigi Gryce  number ("Minority"), and  Miles ' oft-covered "Nardis." Filling out the program, we have a rare  Sam Jones -penned cut, "Blue Funk," and a lone standard in the  Rogers & Hammerstein  chestnut from Oklahoma, "People Will Say We're in Love." One of the highlights from  Adderley 's hard bop prime. "Things Are Getting Better" This title provides ample evidence why alto  Cannonball Adderley  is considered one of the masters of his craft. Here he joins forces with  Modern Jazz Quartet  co-founder  Milt Jackson  on vibes to create a variety of sonic atmospheres. They are backed by the all-star ensemble of  Wynton Kelly  on piano,  Percy Heath  on bass, and the one and only  Art Blakey  on drums. The moody "Blues Oriental" opens the set with  Jackson  immediately diving in with his trademark fluid runs and shimmering intonation.  Adderley  counters with a light and lively line that weaves between the rhythm section. The optimistic "Things Are Getting Better" is a good-natured romp as the co-leads trade and cajole each other into some downright rollicking exchanges. This directly contrasts with the sultry "Serves Me Right," which allows the combo members to demonstrate their collective musical malleability. The interaction between  Adderley  and  Jackson  sparkles as they entwine their respective playing with an uncanny singularity of spirit. The cover of  Dizzy Gillespie 's "Groovin' High" contains another spirited performance with some thoroughly engaging improvisation, especially during  Adderley 's voracious solos. "Sidewalks of New York" bops freely as  Jackson  unleashes some sublime licks against a hearty and equally boisterous sax.  Adderley 's "Sounds for Sid" demonstrates his uncanny ability to swing with a strong R&B vibe. With drop-dead timing and profound instrumental chops, this cut is undoubtedly one of the best from  Adderley 's earliest canon. The album concludes with a jumping reading of  Cole Porter 's "Just One of Those Things." While  Wynton Kelly  has been uniformly solid, his interjections stand out here as he bridges and undergirds the two as they banter with flair and aplomb. This set can be recommended without hesitation to all manner of jazz enthusiast, as it quite literally offers something for every taste. [Some reissues include two bonus tracks supplementing the original seven-song running order, alternate takes of "Serves Me Right" and "Sidewalks of New York."]

Algo así le ocurrió a un grupazo de nombre River City People. La década de los ochenta fue extraña. Mucha música y mucha experimentación con las nuevas tecnologías que se reproducían por momentos, algunos de ellos efímeros... En esa maraña musical podía salir a la luz casi cualquier cosa. Y ese inmenso bosque camufló la música que siempre existió y ha ido evolucionando poco a poco hasta nuestros días. Es ese pop folk, estilo Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, 10.000 Maniacs... A esa fiesta se apuntó River City People con dos trabajos estupendos: "Say Something Good" del año 1989 y " This Is The World" del 1991, demostrando estar en la línea de los anteriores grupos nombrados... Pero los inicios de los noventa vivieron un fenómeno Grunge que lo inundó todo. Un fenómeno musical interesante, que aportó mucho a la música, pero que fagocitó todo el pop y parte del rock a su paso. Entre los damnificados, esos grupos de pop folk estilo RCP. El sonido sucio del Grunge, de una generacion desencantada, no dejaba lugar a las melodías folkies que versionaba el California Dreamin '... Eso, y los problemas internos del grupo, por supuesto, terminaron con la carrera de un grupo que tenía muy buenas hechuras, con temas de muchísima calidad como " Walking on Ice " y un discazo impresionante como Say Something God...   Del primer trabajo salio esta maravillosa cancion que fue single,  WALKING ON ICE, aqui esta la version extendida de 12". Pistas: A Walking On Ice (Extended Version)   4:55  B1 Black   3:26  B2 Huskisson Street (Revisited)   3:06  River City People were a folk rock quartet formed in Liverpool, England in 1986,by vocalist Siobhan Maher, guitarist Tim Speed, his drummer brother Paul Speed, and bassist Dave Snell. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". "This is the World" followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

This singer-songwriter was also proficient on guitar and harmonica. Shearston moved with his family to Sydney at the age of 12, after his father’s farm was destroyed by drought. By the time Shearston was 19 he was a professional singer performing traditional Australian music in pubs, clubs and on radio and television. In the late 50s he made his first recording, for the Festival label, and this was followed by a number of albums for CBS Records in the early to mid-60s. Two of these albums were described as ‘among the best records of traditional music ever made in Australia’. In 1965, Shearston received an award for the best composition of the year when ‘Sometime Lovin’’ was covered by a number of artists including Peter Paul And Mary. In the mid-60s, together with Martyn Wyndham-Read, he recorded a live album on the Australian Score record label, although CBS would not let Shearston appear on the album. In addition, he had his own folk music television programme.  Shearston then travelled to the USA in 1968 and lived there for the next four years. During the mid-70s Shearston relocated to Britain, where he recorded two albums for Charisma Records. Shearston’s one major hit in the UK came in 1974, when ‘I Get A Kick Out Of You’ made the Top 10. This single made Shearston the first Australian artist to have a simultaneous hit in Britain and Australia. Despite the long gap between albums he carried on and worked the folk clubs of Europe. Returning to Australia from England in 1988, Shearston was made a Deacon of the Anglican Church in December 1991, and has served in the parishes of Narrandera, Deniliquin, Hay, and Bangalow. In 2001, he released his first new studio album in over a decade.

Named after a fictional band in Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange, they recruited Glenn Gregory on vocals (who had been the original choice for lead singer of the Human League). Third album How Men Are was released in October 1984, and was preceded by the Top 25 hits Sunset Now and This Is Mine. Further single release …(And That's No Lie) helped the album attain Silver sales. It remains Martyn Ware's favourite album in their catalogue. The inner sleeve includes all the lyrics and credits, and the record is pressed on 180 gram blue vinyl.

En Inglaterra se les comparó rápidamente con Talking Heads, pero fue en Alemania y Austria donde este grupo causó furor más que en su tierra natal. Hablar de Fischer Z es hablar, en cierto modo, de su líder y fundador John Watts, un músico intelectual y enigmático que supo combinar melodías pegadizas con letras de marcado carácter psicológico, social y político. El grupo lo forma en 1976 junto a su compañero de estudios Steve Skolnik. Completarían la banda el bajista David Graham y el batería Steve Liddle. Era una época en la que el punk arrasaba con todo en Inglaterra y sin embargo Fischer Z ofrecían algo más. Primero porque John Watts era un tipo muy culto y muy preocupado por los problemas sociales del momento. El estilo de Fischer Z fue rápidamente comparado como decíamos  con Talking Heads o The Police. En 1979 lanzaron su primer disco “Word Salad”, que incluía temas como el que acabamos de oír, y lograron una actuación en directo para el mítico programa musical británico “Top of the Pops”. Esta actuación resulta un desastre y perjudica a las ventas del disco. En 1980 llegará “ So Long ”, probablemente su canción más conocida gracias a la cual todavía conservan cierta fama. A mediados de ese mismo año Skolnik, el teclista, abandona el grupo y éste queda reducido a un trío en el Watts plasta definitivamente todas sus obsesiones. Aquí llegaría su disco más destacado “Red Skies Over Paradise”, un trabajo cuya inspiración reside en la guerra fría y la amenaza nuclear. Otro tema impresionante de este gran disco es “ Berlin ”. Llegados a 1990, su antigua compañía de discos la EMI Electrola Records lanza al mercado un disco recopilatorio bajo el titulo de Going red for a salad (The UA years). Este disco recopilatorio venia a recoger los mayores éxitos de la banda a lo largo de su paso por esta compañía de discos, destacando los mejores temas también de los primeros álbumes de John Watts. Dos años mas tarde de nuevo se vuelve a editar un nuevo disco de la banda bajo el titulo de Destination paradise. Con este trabajo la formación se consolido como una de las mejores de la época, ya que las temáticas de las letras hablaban de lo cotidiano, desde la guerra del golfo hasta canciones de amor en clave de humor. Tras este disco comienzan una nueva y extensa gira mundial, con la única intención de captar nuevo fans. The original line-up consisted of Watts (vocals, guitar), Skolnik (keyboards), David Graham (bass) and Steve Liddle (drums). The band's name is pronounced "fɪʃə zɛd" (fisher zed), a pun on "fish's head" with the "h" dropped, as is usual in many British regional accents. The pun also relies on leaving the "r" unpronounced as in common British non-rhotic accents. Fischer-Z's first hit was "The Worker" from the album Word Salad which firmly established Watts' ability to convey worldly political issues in narrative songs against a background of quirky pop and reggae-influenced music. In an interview in Record Mirror in 1981, Watts put this down to the remix of the song from the album version, which put the emphasis on the keyboards rather than his guitar. Skolnik departed after their second album Going Deaf for a Living, leaving Watts to take over keyboards. Watts' lyrics draw heavily on his experiences of studying clinical psychology and as a mental health care worker. Several songs on their third album Red Skies Over Paradise in 1981, such as "Berlin" and "Red Skies Over Paradise" were about the Cold War and the song "Cruise Missiles" was about the nuclear arms race and the mutual threat of the superpowers with nuclear war. Fischer-Z were more popular in mainland Europe than their native UK, especially in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Portugal (two top 10 hits and a No. 3 album). Fischer-Z were also successful in Australia, where they achieved two Top 20 hits with "So Long" from the album Going Deaf for a Living and "The Perfect Day" from Reveal.[2] After the album Red Skies over Paradise Watts dissolved the band in mid-1981, deciding his art could not evolve within a band context.

SIMPLE MINDS - REJUVENATION 2001-2014 VINYL B SIMPLE MINDS - REJUVENATION 2001-2014 VINYL B Limited six colored vinyl LP pressing. After leaving the Virgin label, and a one-off album with Chrysalis, Simple Minds took stock and decided to make records for themselves. An album of cover versions of songs dear to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, Neon Lights, was released in 2001, followed by Cry in 2002, an album of new compositions recorded in Glasgow and Sicily. The recordings for Black and White 050505 were completed on the 5th May 2005, hence the title. This album and Neon Lights and Cry make their first appearances on vinyl in this box set, with specially-created outer and inner sleeves, and include some exclusive bonus tracks from the CD releases. Graffiti Soul continued the band's return to the top, charting at # 10 in May 2009. Big Music was released in October 2014, charting at #12. All the albums are pressed on different coloured 180 gram vinyl, and the rigid slipcase features a brand new note by Jim Kerr.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART - SUN ZOOM SPARK 1970 TO 1972 CAPTAIN BEEFHEART - SUN ZOOM SPARK 1970 TO 1972 Rhino intends to change that with a limited edition four-LP collection that revisits the albums Captain Beefheart (aka Don Van Vliet) recorded with the Magic Band in the early Seventies. It includes all three albums, which have been remastered for the first time, as well as an entire disc featuring 14 previously unissued outtakes from that era. Recorded over a couple of weeks in the summer of 1970 at United Recording Group in Hollywood, Lick My Decals Off, Baby was released the following October. One of Van Vliet's favorites, the album represents the apex of his dissonant style and includes such standout tracks as the quirky-funny I Love You, You Big Dummy and the exquisite solo guitar piece One Red Rose That I Mean. It was followed by The Spotlight Kid, which was recorded at The Record Plant in Los Angeles during the summer of 1971. It features a more barebones, blues-rock sound on songs like Click Clack, I'm Gonna Booglarize You Baby and Alice In Blunderland. Lester Bangs wrote in Rolling Stone (March '72) that Beefheart had struck the balance between intensely personal type of statement and mass appeal, praising the album for its wit and genius.Soon after, Clear Spot was released. Recorded in the summer of 1972, the album introduced several standout tracks, such as the vulnerable love song My Head Is My Only House Unless It Rains, the soul ballad Too Much Time, and the pulsing Big Eyed Beans from Venus. The fourth and final LP in SUN ZOOM SPARK includes unreleased tracks and is a trove of alternate versions, rehearsals and outtakes from the sessions for The Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot. The LP reveals just how much some songs evolved before being released. Among the highlights are a sung-version of I Can't Do This Unless I Can Do This/Seam Crooked Sam, which became a spoken-word performance on Bat Chain Puller; a raucous, off-kilter version of Dirty Blue Gene that pointed the way to the final version on Doc a

MONO - REQUIEM FOR HELL MONO - REQUIEM FOR HELL Mono / REQUIEM FOR HELL - VINYL LP - Requiem For Hell finds Mono returning to longtime friend and collaborator, Steve Albini. After Mono and Albini's band, Shellac, toured Japan together last year, they realized how much they missed the (often wordless) creative dialogue they shared during the making of many of their most memorable albums - beginning with Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky... (2004) and culminating with Hymn To Immortal Wind (2009). The band's name actually reflects their ambitions. DREAMCAR speaks to a nostalgia, but as much as it speaks to the past, it also speaks to the present and the future, singer Davey Havok says. The album swings between the Frankie Goes To Hollywood-style risqué spoken narrative of On The Charts to the delicate longing of the synth-washed Slip On The Moon where Havok pleads, Just look for me, I will look for you. Born To Lie builds from a breathy verse into an expansive refrain, while the opener After I Confess sees his hypnotic and haunting vocal soar over airy and open soundscapes.
