Directed by Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and featuring interviews and performances by the iconic musicians who made their careers in the legendary Sound City studios, the movie tells the story of real Rock n' Roll history, and celebrates the human element of music, as Grohl gathers some of Rock's greatest artists to collaborate on a new album. Using Sound City's legendary analog console, together they continue to create musical miracles in a digital world. The film was conceived by Grohl after purchasing the legendary custom-built Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios in 2011. The board, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded countless musical legends over the past 40 years.

In The Hothouse was the band's double LP live album recorded on their tour to support the Heads And Hearts album. The Sound were formed in South London in 1979 and dissolved in 1988. They were fronted by Adrian Borland and evolved from his previous band, The Outsiders. While never commercially successful, The Sound have long been championed by critics.

El líder del grupo era Adrian Borland y se formó como evolución de su banda anterior, The Outsiders. Compartieron casa de discos con grupos como: Echo & the Bunnymen y The Chameleons y compartieron escenario con Echo & the Bunnymen, The Comsat Angels, The Au Pairs, Modern Eon, Felt, Medium Medium, U2, Public Image Ltd., Eyeless In Gaza, The Stranglers, China Crisis, Thompson Twins, y Aztec Camera entre otros muchos. Son multitud los que están de acuerdo en que The Sound no recibió el reconocimiento que merecía. De la tienda de discos de Sun Records: "The Sound fueron trágicamente infravalorados en su día y han permanecido injustamente olvidados desde entonces."10 Según Trouser Press: "Es difícil entender como este cuarteto londinense nunca encontró el éxito. En su mejor momento, el excelente neo-pop de the Sound estaba a la altura de los mejores the Psychedelic Furs y Echo & the Bunnymen." Y según Jack Rabid de la revista Big Takeover: "The Sound? Simplemente uno de los mejores grupos de los 80." Poco después de la muerte de Adrian Borland, el catálogo de The Sound fue remasterizado y reeditado en CD por Renascent Records, una compañía que inicialmente fue creada únicamente con ese fin. (Thunder Up es el único álbum de estudio del grupo no reeditado por Renascent.) The original lineup of The Sound consisted of Adrian Borland (vocals, guitar) and Graham Bailey (bass guitar), both ex-Outsiders, along with Mike Dudley (drums) and Benita "Bi" Marshall (keyboard, saxophone, clarinet). While not a member, ex-Outsider Adrian Janes would contribute ideas and co-write lyrics to The Sound's music. Borland and Bailey also made up the band Second Layer, formed around the same time as The Sound. The Sound made their debut with the EP Physical World in 1979. It was favourably received by NME and received airplay from DJ John Peel. More of their early recordings were later released as the album Propaganda in 1999.
