Quienes vieron a Simple Minds actuar en aquella gira tuvieron la impresión de que la banda estaba cerrando un capítulo importante de su carrera, como si quisiera pasar página. Cuando en la primavera de 1987 se publica el doble álbum en vivo 'In the city of light', grabado en el Zenith de París, el grupo vuelve a acelerar los corazones de sus miles de fans. Sus cuatro caras contienen una hora y media de gran rock, una suma de toda la producción de la banda escocesa. Live In The City Of Light fue un disco en directo, editado en 1987, en donde se plasmaba la extensa gira del grupo por aquel entonces, grabado durante la actuación de 2 noches en París en 1986. El disco tuvo un gran éxito comercial pero no fue capaz de demostrar el gran directo de la banda. Tras la extenuante gira, el grupo decide tomarse un descanso. Después de 10 años sin pausa se necesitaba buscar un poco de calma. La banda estaba colocada entre las más grandes pero la presión llegó a ser terrible por lo que no tuvieron más remedio que parar antes de que el éxito les desbordara y sobrepasara. Durante estos años, Simple Minds fue un gran colaborador y divulgador de Amnistía Internacional. Live In The City Of Light is the first (double LP / CD) live album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. It was released in May 1987 to document their successful worldwide Once Upon a Time tour, and charted at No. 1 in the UK. The album spawned one chart single release, a live version of "Promised You a Miracle". The album was recorded mostly at Le Zénith, Paris in August 1986, with one track recorded in October 1986 in Sydney, Australia. (Although the album was not recorded there, the inside of the gatefold sleeve features a photograph of a concert from the 1986 tour which took place in a square in Locarno, Switzerland). It features the band's 1986 touring lineup, which included second vocalist Robin Clark and percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos. Lisa Germano (at the time, a John Mellencamp band member who would perform on Simple Minds' next studio single, Belfast Child), contributed studio-overdubbed violin on "Someone Somewhere in Summertime" and former Simple Minds member Derek Forbes contributed  bass guitar overdubs. Live In The City Of Light was released as a double vinyl album with the band's logo in gold lettering over black sleeve. The package featured a 12" x 12" attached giant-sized booklet with state-of-the-art photography of the band's performance and outdoor session pictures. En 1969, grabó "New Routes", un álbum grabado en los famosos estudios Muscle Shoals.Un disco curioso y raro de encontrar, en el se incluía una buenísima versión de " Mr. Bojangles ", de Jerry Jeff Walker. Grabado entre el 10 de septiembre y el 2 de octubre de 1969, fue una de las primeras grabaciones de aquellos míticos estudios. Y claro lo mejor y lo que mas me entusiasma del asunto es que en el disco Lulu contó con Duane Allman en las guitarras. Mi entusiasmo por encontrarme este disco es evidente, ya que adquiero todo lo que toque de cerca o de lejos a los Allman. El disco contaba con temas como la canción " Oh Me Oh My (I'm a Fool For You Baby) " que obtuvo cierto éxito. Una buena versión de " Feelin' Alright " de Dave Mason. "Dirty Old Man" de Delaney Bramlett, etc... Por lo que se puede apreciar a simple vista; muy buen gusto tenia esta majisima señorita. El disco también contó con Barry Edward Beckett en los teclados, un hombre que que trabajó como músico de sesión con los artistas mas grandes. James Luther "Jim" Dickinson al piano y las guitarras, un hombre que no necesita presentación,simplemente recordar que sus hijos, Luther y Cody han seguido sus pasos con éxito,tanto con North Mississippi All Stars, como como Hill Country Revue y The Black Crowes. Y que el piano en " Wild Horses" de los Stones es el! El gran Cornell Dupree tambien se ocupo de las guitarras, junto a Charlie Figueroa y Eddie Hinton este ultimo guitarra de Aretha Franklin, Solomon Burke, The Staple Singers y Elvis Presley entre muchos. Al bajo David Hood, otro con un curriculum que echa de espalda, y su hijo, Patterson Hood, es uno de Drive-By Truckers. Michael Utley con el organo, un hombre muy apegado a Rita Coolidge y Kris Kristofferson. Como se puede ver Lulu tuvo a la creme de la creme en su disco, y como productores tampoco se quedo corta: Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin y Tom Dowd. Nada mas y nada menos! Como ven nuestra Lulu,se lo monto divinamente en este disco y un año más tarde, lanzo un álbum similar, "Melody Fair". Ambos se registraron en el sello Atco y son piezas muy buscadas Lulu siempre siguió en el negocio del espectáculo,consiguiendo éxitos nada desdeñables, aunque su estilo siempre ha derivado hacia un pop muy comercial, siempre quedaran estos discos que grabo en los Muscle Shoals. Tras la edición de este disco, el dúo se trasladó a Nueva York, donde se les añadieron David Yarritu y Eden (Fiona Russell-Powell) al grupo, sólo para los efectos visuales, sin tocar ningún instrumento ni cantar. A principios de 1985 se publicó el brillante y pegadizo single Be near me, que subió hasta el puesto 26 de las listas británicas. Debido al éxito del single, How to be a...millionaire! consiguió entrar en el Top 30 tanto en Reino Unido como en Estados Unidos. Be near me se publicó a finales de 1985 en Estados Unidos, convirtiéndose en el primer Top 10 del grupo en este país. A pesar de los éxitos regulares del grupo durante 1985, los siguientes singles, Vanity kills y Ocean blue, se estancaron en los charts. ABC fue una de las primeras bandas que utilizó la técnica del video scratching para algunos vídeos de How to be a... Zillionaire, como el de Be near me. Four singles were released from this album, "(How to Be A) Millionaire " (UK: 49, US: 20), " Be Near Me " (UK singles chart: 26, US Billboard Hot 100: 9), " Vanity Kills " (UK: 74, US: 91), and the fourth was " Ocean Blue ", (UK: 54). The album peaked on the UK Albums Chart at 28 and on the Billboard 200 at 30. On the cover the album's title is in the foreground lit up like a spotlight against a tri-tone background on which various quotes of the album's lyrics can be seen. There is also a drop shadow behind the title. No dialogue at the start of the song " Vanity Kills ". Eden (see band line up in next section) does the harmony vocal on the song " Ocean Blue ". Guitars completely absent from Side Two/Tracks 6–10. No cursing from Eden in the song "A to Z". Four seconds of silence between "A to Z" and "(How to Be a) Millionaire". Eden performs the breakdown vocal and plays the instrumental solo in the song "(How to Be a) Millionaire".
