Fue una pionera de los grupos rock femeninos, ya que, cuando conoció a una chica en 1962 que tocaba la batería, formó el grupo Goldie and the Gingerbreads que realizó numerosas giras por Estados Unidos y Europa. En el Reino Unido lograron su único éxito en 1965 con el single 'Can't you hear my heartbeat SUPER GRUESA DOBLE CARPETA PRESENTA SEÑAL DE DESCATALOGACION TIPICA EN ESTA EDICIONES USA, VINILO IMPECABLE   En 1968 se unió a la banda Ten Wheel Drive, que, con una sección de viento, practicaba un blues-jazz-rock con tintes psicodélicos que llamó la atención y pronto surgieron las comparaciones entre Genya Ravan y Janis Joplin. Un año después fichan por Polydor y se publica el primer álbum 'Construction #1' al que siguieron 'Brief Replies' (1970) y 'Peculiar friends' (1971).   A continuación Genya dejó el grupo para continuar en solitario con excelentes trabajos que pasan desapercibidos, como 'They Love Me, They Love Me Not' (1973) y 'Goldie Zelkowitz'. Ravan también ha sido una de las primeras mujeres en producir bandas de rock masculinas, como fue el caso de los Dead Boys, además de Long John Baldry, Kool & the Gang, Tiny Tim y los Crumbsuckers, entre muchos otros. The three of them had been delivering mysterious space records on a regular basis, and their growing confidence with early synthesizers (the best that money could buy at the time) made them virtuosos of the genre, even as they kept things organic and unpredictable with gongs, prepared piano, and electric guitar. Rubycon has aged gracefully for the most part, making it a solid companion (and follow-up) to their 1974 album, Phaedra. The somewhat dated palette of sounds here never overshadow the mood: eerie psychedelia without the paisleys -- Pink Floyd without the rock. "Rubycon, Pt. 1" ebbs and flows through tense washes of echo and Mellotron choirs, as primitive sequencer lines bubble to the surface. "Pt. 2" opens in a wonderfully haunted way, like air-raid sirens at the lowest possible pitch, joined in unison by several male voices (someone in the band must have heard György Ligeti's work for 2001). Rising out of the murkiness, the synthesizer arpeggios return to drive things along, and Froese weaves his backwards-recorded guitar through the web without really calling too much attention to himself. The piece evolves through varying degrees of tension, takes a pit stop on the shoreline of some faraway beach, then ever so gradually unravels a cluster of free-form strings and flutes. The rest are vapors, your ears are sweating under your headphones, and the smoke has cleared from your bedroom. This is a satisfying ambient record from the pre-ambient era, too dark for meditation, and too good to be forgotten.

Carla Bozulich decided to hunt down what was killing her and rip it to shreds, unsure how but doing it anyway. She put together a great band. They were lucky in lots of ways. The drive behind the project was to burn up indoctrination and shame and guy-centric rock, and to have fun with friends in the L.A. scene. They weren't trying to break barriers or be the best, just to scratch their way out of the cold, cold ground and to make and play some fresh songs. The band for this record was Bill Tutton (contra-bass), Kevin Fitzgerald (drums), Daniel Keenan (guitar), Jesse Greene (violin) and Carla Bozulich (vox, guitar). Four bonus tracks include Nels Cline (in an alt-cover of Can's You Doo Right, for example) and Jessica Moss (Silver Mount Zion) playing on a brand new Fibbers track. Thank You For Giving Me Life. Minutemen and / or Pettibon fans, the lyrics of this track will ring bells! There are so many genders. Many of her lyrics, in Bozulich's mind, are written and sung by a man or a genderless creature, just saying what has to be said. Girl bands are a great statement against misogyny in rock and roll, but it turned out that playing with the Fibbers, consisting of random gendered humans who strongly opposed discrimination, was also a beautiful solution-to simply play with the best musicians she knows, drawn together by pure musical magnetism and wanting to be soaked in underground madness and beauty. Lost Somewhere Between The Earth And My Home was recorded by Steve Fisk (Nirvana, Unwound, Beat Happening) and released in 1995. It is, in turns, tempestuous and tender. Classic country wraps up with noise, a crack-band and a singular voice mix like a twisted, American journey.
