Recorded in the fall of 1971 while TJW was opening for Creedence Clearwater Revival, this show became the proverbial legendary lost live album, and for good reason: Warner Bros. recorded the concert on multitrack tape, fully intending it to be released. But for some reason lost to the mists of time, the album never came out until Rhino Handmade released it in 2010 exclusively via their website. Which means it never went to regular retail at all in any format, and that's a real shame, because you could make a good argument that it's the best Tony Joe White album of 'em all, with a set list to die for (a 10:35 version of Polk Salad Annie!), a great band (featuring Duck Dunn on bass), pristine fidelity, and plenty of Swamp Fox attitude. This 2-LP release comes, like the CD did, inside a gatefold jacket featuring a front cover cut out displaying the art on one of two inner sleeves with great liner notes by Ben Vaughn and the late, great Tony Joe White himself. Named after a fictional band in Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange, they recruited Glenn Gregory on vocals (who had been the original choice for lead singer of the Human League). Fourth album for the Virgin label, Pleasure One was released in November 1986, and featured the singles Contenders and Trouble. The album features more session musicians than on the previous releases, including Earth Wind & Fire's horn section, The Phenix Horns. The inner sleeve includes all the lyrics and credits, and the record is pressed on 180 gram orange vinyl.

Algo así le ocurrió a un grupazo de nombre River City People. La década de los ochenta fue extraña. Mucha música y mucha experimentación con las nuevas tecnologías que se reproducían por momentos, algunos de ellos efímeros... En esa maraña musical podía salir a la luz casi cualquier cosa. Y ese inmenso bosque camufló la música que siempre existió y ha ido evolucionando poco a poco hasta nuestros días. Es ese pop folk, estilo Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, 10.000 Maniacs... A esa fiesta se apuntó River City People con dos trabajos estupendos: "Say Something Good" del año 1989 y " This Is The World" del 1991, demostrando estar en la línea de los anteriores grupos nombrados... Pero los inicios de los noventa vivieron un fenómeno Grunge que lo inundó todo. Un fenómeno musical interesante, que aportó mucho a la música, pero que fagocitó todo el pop y parte del rock a su paso. Entre los damnificados, esos grupos de pop folk estilo RCP. El sonido sucio del Grunge, de una generacion desencantada, no dejaba lugar a las melodías folkies que versionaba el California Dreamin '... Eso, y los problemas internos del grupo, por supuesto, terminaron con la carrera de un grupo que tenía muy buenas hechuras, con temas de muchísima calidad como " Walking on Ice " y un discazo impresionante como Say Something God...   Del primer trabajo salio esta maravillosa cancion que fue single,  WALKING ON ICE, aqui esta la version extendida de 12". Pistas: A Walking On Ice (Extended Version)   4:55  B1 Black   3:26  B2 Huskisson Street (Revisited)   3:06  River City People were a folk rock quartet formed in Liverpool, England in 1986,by vocalist Siobhan Maher, guitarist Tim Speed, his drummer brother Paul Speed, and bassist Dave Snell. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". "This is the World" followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

DREAM COMMAND (COMSAT ANGELS) - FIRE ON THE MOON DREAM COMMAND (COMSAT ANGELS) - FIRE ON THE MOON Discográfica:   Demon Demon Records is delighted to present the reissue programme of the albums by THE COMSAT ANGELS originally recorded between 1980-'90 on vinyl. These albums prove beyond all reasonable doubt that while commercial recognition may have eluded the Sheffield-based quartet, they still accumulated one of the most enviable, enduring and unsung catalogues known to rock. This series begins with the trio of iconic, post-punk era LPs the Comsats recorded for Polydor - WAITING FOR A MIRACLE; SLEEP NO MORE and FICTION); and also CHASING SHADOWS coupled with FIRE ON THE MOON (the latter recorded while the Comsat Angels were known as Dream Command), which were both originally released by Island Records. All these expanded editions come with bonus second discs, plus booklets with, lyrics, rare photos and detailed liner notes by Tim Peacock (Record Collector) with participation from Steve Fellows. The little-known FIRE ON THE MOON was recorded while the Comsats were briefly known as Dream Command, a move encouraged by the label in an attempt to circumvent issues with the band name in the USA. The album was only ever released in the USAand the Netherlands, and quickly deleted. A real lost album for Comsat Angels fans

OSCAR PETERSON: TRAVELLIN' ON [UK 1969] LP OSCAR PETERSON: TRAVELLIN' ON [UK 1969] LP (MPS - Polydor)  1969  made in UK cat. num.  583 772 #jazz   A1 Travellin' On 2:25 A2 Emily 10:08 A3 Quiet Nights 7:20 B1 Sax No End 5:52 B2 When Lights Are Low 10:49   This is yet another memorable concert by  the Oscar Peterson Trio  recorded in  Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer 's excellent studio. With bassist  Sam Jones  and drummer  Bobby Durham,  Peterson  tears into the old gospel favorite "Travelin' On" with a passion second to none. Following it is a beautiful treatment of  Johnny Mandel 's timeless ballad "Emily," which runs for over ten minutes but never loses its impact.  Durham  sets the pace with his soft percussion to set up  Antonio Carlos Jobim 's "Corcovado" (later known as "Quiet Nights"), though  Peterson  devours the song whole with a breathtaking display of his formidable technique.  Francy Boland 's "Sax No End" was a relatively new composition, having been recorded for the first time just the previous year by the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. But one can almost hear a larger ensemble by listening to  Peterson 's virtuoso interpretation in an uptempo setting, assisted by  Jones ' agile bass and  Durham 's steady percussion.  Peterson  cools off his audience with an extended exploration of  Benny Carter 's "When Lights Are Low," though his fresh approach makes it seem like a brand new composition. Like other releases in  Oscar Peterson 's Exclusively for My Friends series,  Travelin' On  is warmly recommended.
