The better known artists that do appear here are represented by some of their lesser-known ('lost') tracks. The 80s (and especially the first part) was an amazing time for music. It was a mad, fast, kaleidoscopic rollercoaster ride where the chancers taking your money not only walked the walk; they backed it up with innovative, amazing tunes that changed the way music was made forever. That's certainly how I remember it... Recorded in the fall of 1971 while TJW was opening for Creedence Clearwater Revival, this show became the proverbial legendary lost live album, and for good reason: Warner Bros. recorded the concert on multitrack tape, fully intending it to be released. But for some reason lost to the mists of time, the album never came out until Rhino Handmade released it in 2010 exclusively via their website. Which means it never went to regular retail at all in any format, and that's a real shame, because you could make a good argument that it's the best Tony Joe White album of 'em all, with a set list to die for (a 10:35 version of Polk Salad Annie!), a great band (featuring Duck Dunn on bass), pristine fidelity, and plenty of Swamp Fox attitude. This 2-LP release comes, like the CD did, inside a gatefold jacket featuring a front cover cut out displaying the art on one of two inner sleeves with great liner notes by Ben Vaughn and the late, great Tony Joe White himself. However, even though many of the songs on this soundtrack are not as memorable as their more popular collaborations, this album is not that bad. In fact, many of the songs are quite catchy, including "The World Is a Circle" and "Reflections." Some of the vocals are sung by the actors, including  Sally Kellerman  and the late  Bobby Van.  Burt Bacharach  has a certain knack for production of not-so-great singers (himself included) and, fortunately, it shows here with the actors. Other actors had their singing parts dubbed by more seasoned vocalists.  Shawn Phillips  is the singer on the title track.

GERALDINE FIBBERS - LOST SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE EAR GERALDINE FIBBERS - LOST SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE EAR Discográfica:   Jealous Butcher Records The Geraldine Fibbers' Lost Somewhere Between The Earth And My Home is about taking risks. Carla Bozulich decided to hunt down what was killing her and rip it to shreds, unsure how but doing it anyway. She put together a great band. They were lucky in lots of ways. The drive behind the project was to burn up indoctrination and shame and guy-centric rock, and to have fun with friends in the L.A. scene. They weren't trying to break barriers or be the best, just to scratch their way out of the cold, cold ground and to make and play some fresh songs. The band for this record was Bill Tutton (contra-bass), Kevin Fitzgerald (drums), Daniel Keenan (guitar), Jesse Greene (violin) and Carla Bozulich (vox, guitar). Four bonus tracks include Nels Cline (in an alt-cover of Can's You Doo Right, for example) and Jessica Moss (Silver Mount Zion) playing on a brand new Fibbers track. Thank You For Giving Me Life. Minutemen and / or Pettibon fans, the lyrics of this track will ring bells! There are so many genders. Many of her lyrics, in Bozulich's mind, are written and sung by a man or a genderless creature, just saying what has to be said. Girl bands are a great statement against misogyny in rock and roll, but it turned out that playing with the Fibbers, consisting of random gendered humans who strongly opposed discrimination, was also a beautiful solution-to simply play with the best musicians she knows, drawn together by pure musical magnetism and wanting to be soaked in underground madness and beauty. Lost Somewhere Between The Earth And My Home was recorded by Steve Fisk (Nirvana, Unwound, Beat Happening) and released in 1995. It is, in turns, tempestuous and tender. Classic country wraps up with noise, a crack-band and a singular voice mix like a twisted, American journey.

Fue acompañado también de un recopilatorio de New Order titulado Substance. Alcanzó el puesto número 7 en las listas de ventas del Reino Unido1 y el puesto 146 en el Billboard 200. También alcanzó el puesto 15 en Nueva Zelanda y el 53 en Australia en agosto de 1988. Substance compila los cuatro sencillos lanzados por la banda que no aparecían en ningún álbum. Estos son: "Transmission", "Komakino", "Love Will Tear Us Apart" y "Atmosphere", todos con sus respectivos lados B. Following the death of Ian Curtis, it was reissued as a posthumous B-side of the "She's Lost Control" single in an alternate version from the track that had previously appeared on Unknown Pleasures. The vinyl version omits the single "Komakino" and does not include the complete titles from the extended plays. Later CD pressings issued by London Records contain a previously unreleased mix of "She's Lost Control" that is slightly different from the original single release. More guitar is mixed within the song, the synthesizer melody is shortened and starts at a later point, and the ending of the song is extended by 15 seconds and doesn't fade out. Substance was digitally remastered in 2015 containing the alternate mix of "She's Lost Control" and two additional tracks: "As You Said" (the second b-side of Komakino) and the b-side mix of "Love Will Tear Us Apart".

Pocas veces alguien fue más felizmente triste.   Mainstream is the third and final studio album released by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions. It was produced by Ian Stanley and released by Capitol Records in the US and Polydor in the UK on 26 October 1987. It contained the hits " From the Hip ", " My Bag ", and " Jennifer She Said ". Although the album reached number nine in the UK, it failed to chart in America and was not embraced by all critics: Mainstream is the only Lloyd Cole and the Commotions release not to sell at least 100,000 copies in the US. The album took two years to make as finding a producer proved difficult. The band first went with Chris Thomas, when that did not work out they brought in Stewart Copeland. With Copeland they only recorded one track, " Hey Rusty ", then finally found Ian Stanley. Donegan reflected in 2004 that "with the previous LP, Easy Pieces, we had tried to broaden out and make more of a pop record and it hadn't really worked. It sounded rushed and the songs were not all up to standard. So, a year after Easy Pieces, we went into the studio to try and make something more powerful. But the LP that we actually made took so long that we lost our initial vision by the time we finished it. The songs that Lloyd was writing were more introspective, so the stadium rock idea gradually went out the window." The first major-label, digitally recorded album,  Bop  is a nice set of moderately known to obscure tunes from the '50s and '60s (along with a  Cooder / Tim Drummond  original) that doesn't always live up to its promise.  Cooder  and his excellent band, which includes the rhythm section of  Tim Drummond  and  Jim Keltner  along with guitarist  David Lindley, understand the material and are more than capable of laying down a decent groove, but something must have gotten lost in translation from what was played to what came across on the recording. There's a thinness to the tracks that undermines the performances, which according to  Cooder  is due to the digital recording. If you check out the live version of  Bop Till You Drop 's opener, "Little Sister," from the No Nukes record (using the same band), you can see what surely could have been. Still,  Bop  is worthwhile given  Cooder 's penchant for choosing great tunes, as well as the tight performances, brilliant guitar work, and a handful of great guest vocalists (including  Chaka Khan). A few of the highlights include his arrangement of the early-'60s  Elvis  hit "Little Sister," the soulful "The Very Thing That Makes You Rich (Makes Me Poor)," an instrumental take on  Ike & Tina Turner 's "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine," and "I Can't Win," featuring  Cooder 's longtime cohort  Bobby King  on lead vocal.

La armónica que abre la inaugural ‘I’m so restless’, sin ir más lejos, corresponde a un tal Dylan, mientras que el saxofonista que irrumpe para alborotar el canónico folk-rock de ‘My new woman’ es cortesía del mismísimo Charles Lloyd. No se detienen ahí las sorpresas: ‘Draggin’ no es solo un evidente tributo a los Beach Boys, sino que las armonías las aporta Bruce Johnston, uno de los Chicos de la Playa. ‘Time cube’ mira hacia la tradición más pura de estrofa repetida, aunque extrañamente coloreada con un sintetizador Moog. Pero es de autoría propia, a diferencia del epílogo del álbum, la célebre tonada tradicional ‘The water is wide’. El modo más campestre, con ‘slide’ de por medio, le sirve a ‘Bag full of money’ para abrir la cara B, donde a su vez se cuela el desmadre fronterizo de ‘Mi linda’ o el ‘blues’ a la vieja usanza de ‘Hanoi Hannah’. Y es toda esa mezcolanza, su permanente carácter híbrido, las decisiones extrañas (el coro infantil de ‘Stone’), lo que quizá no hiciese de este LP un referente de su década. In a sense, it's a back-to-basics album that emphasizes much of what McGuinn does so well: his forceful reedy vocals, his guitar playing, and his skills at both writing earnest folk-rock material (usually with future Bob Dylan collaborator Jacques Levy here) and interpreting unusual traditional and contemporary songs. Never was it folkier than on the acoustic "I'm So Restless," which benefited from harmonica by Dylan himself (about whom the song was partially about). All four of the other original Byrds play on "My New Woman," which is virtually a reunion of the original quintet, with the addition of saxophone by jazzman Charles Lloyd; David Crosby makes unobtrusive cameos on some other tracks. As likable as it is, however, the album isn't an unqualified triumph. Some of the songs aren't so hot, some of the Moog synthesizer (by McGuinn) is unnecessary, his vocals sometimes seem to have been recorded with too much brittleness, and none of this is as good as the best of the Byrds. Unexpected influences make themselves heard in the Beach Boys harmonies of "Draggin'" (with Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys on piano and backup harmonies), the Vietnam blues of "Hanoi Hannah," and the gospel-rock of "Stone." The 2004 CD reissue adds two previously unissued bonus tracks: a solo acoustic cover of the traditional folk song "John, John" and a less pleasing cover of Jackson Browne 's "Jamaica, Say You Will." The whole thing starts with an a cappella intro to the theme song from the 1984 movie Up the Creek, and we also found room for one of the great lost Beatles covers of all time, the band's version of Magical Mystery Tour that only appeared on their Greatest Hits release! The liner notes feature track-by-track commentary from Bun E. Carlos, Rick Nielsen, and Robin Zander via interviews with longtime band biographer Ken Sharp and Timothy J. Smith, the Epic Archive series compilation producer; once again, band lensman Robert Alford has contributed photos to our beautiful gatefold package.
