Quienes vieron a Simple Minds actuar en aquella gira tuvieron la impresión de que la banda estaba cerrando un capítulo importante de su carrera, como si quisiera pasar página. Cuando en la primavera de 1987 se publica el doble álbum en vivo 'In the city of light', grabado en el Zenith de París, el grupo vuelve a acelerar los corazones de sus miles de fans. Sus cuatro caras contienen una hora y media de gran rock, una suma de toda la producción de la banda escocesa. Live In The City Of Light fue un disco en directo, editado en 1987, en donde se plasmaba la extensa gira del grupo por aquel entonces, grabado durante la actuación de 2 noches en París en 1986. El disco tuvo un gran éxito comercial pero no fue capaz de demostrar el gran directo de la banda. Tras la extenuante gira, el grupo decide tomarse un descanso. Después de 10 años sin pausa se necesitaba buscar un poco de calma. La banda estaba colocada entre las más grandes pero la presión llegó a ser terrible por lo que no tuvieron más remedio que parar antes de que el éxito les desbordara y sobrepasara. Durante estos años, Simple Minds fue un gran colaborador y divulgador de Amnistía Internacional. Live In The City Of Light is the first (double LP / CD) live album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. It was released in May 1987 to document their successful worldwide Once Upon a Time tour, and charted at No. 1 in the UK. The album spawned one chart single release, a live version of "Promised You a Miracle". The album was recorded mostly at Le Zénith, Paris in August 1986, with one track recorded in October 1986 in Sydney, Australia. (Although the album was not recorded there, the inside of the gatefold sleeve features a photograph of a concert from the 1986 tour which took place in a square in Locarno, Switzerland). It features the band's 1986 touring lineup, which included second vocalist Robin Clark and percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos. Lisa Germano (at the time, a John Mellencamp band member who would perform on Simple Minds' next studio single, Belfast Child), contributed studio-overdubbed violin on "Someone Somewhere in Summertime" and former Simple Minds member Derek Forbes contributed  bass guitar overdubs. Live In The City Of Light was released as a double vinyl album with the band's logo in gold lettering over black sleeve. The package featured a 12" x 12" attached giant-sized booklet with state-of-the-art photography of the band's performance and outdoor session pictures. This art could not be reproduced faithfully on later CD releases (an original 1st pressing on double-fat jewel case and the USA version packaged in a long box on two separate discs). The song triggered a prolonged period of commercial success for the band, during which they yielded 21 original UK hit singles in a row, up to and including 1998's "Glitterball" from the album Neapolis. La edición en cassette fue doble, ya que contenía el resto de caras B y se tituló Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984. El disco es el resultado de las grabaciones de los conciertos que dio la banda en el actual Hammersmith Apollo de Londres y en Oxford en mayo de 1984. La portada fue diseñada por el mismo Robert Smith, bajo el seudónimo de Toberr, con un fotograma de vídeo de una emisión de televisión en directo el 25 de agosto de 1984 durante el concierto que The Cure ofrecieron en el Barrowland Ballroom situado en Glasgow, Escocia y que tenía la intención de que ilustrase un disco pirata de la banda. Algunos de los temas que los Cure tocaron en los conciertos de mayo de 1984 en Oxford y Londres durante la gira promocional del álbum "The Top", se inmortalizarían en el primer directo oficial de la banda de Robert Smith. Así, de lo poco que se podía salvar del mediocre y antes mencionado "The top", se incluyeron " Shake dog shake " y " Give me it ". También, una revisión más acorde con su estilo del hit discotequero " The walk ". Del oscuro y taciturno "Pornography" dejarían patente una intensidad épica con " One hundred years " y " The hanging garden ". Del tétrico y tormentoso "Faith" se incluiría la menos tenebrosa, esa fantástica " Primary ". Además, la inclusión de " Charlotte sometimes " permitió conocer más ampliamente una de las rarezas inéditas publicadas en formato single de The Cure. Del frío y experimental "Seventeen seconds" se recogería " A forest " en una psicodélica versión que se convertiría a posteriori en la joya del siniestro afterpunk. Finalmente, para cerrar este álbum " 10:15 Saturday night " y " Killing an arab ", los dos temas de su primer single con aquel primerizo powerpop característico. En definitiva, en "Concert - The Cure Live" se recogían las mayores virtudes del primer y más interesante período de una de las bandas más exitosas de la década de los 80. The album was a Top 10 hit in the UK, and was their first studio album to break the Billboard 200 in the US, reaching number 180. Melody Maker praised the album as "psychedelia that can't be dated", while pondering, "I've yet to meet anyone who can tell me why the Cure are having hits now of all times." The Cure then embarked on their worldwide Top Tour with Thompson, Anderson and producer-turned-bassist Phil Thornalley on board. Released in late 1984, The Cure's first live album, Concert consisted of performances from this tour. Near the tour's end, Anderson was fired for destroying a hotel room and was replaced by Boris Williams. Thornalley also left because of the stress of touring. However, the bassist slot was not vacant long, for a Cure roadie named Gary Biddles had brokered a reunion between Smith and former bassist Simon Gallup, who had been playing in the band Fools Dance. Soon after reconciling, Smith asked Gallup to rejoin the band. Concert: The Cure Live is the first live album of English rock band The Cure. It was recorded in 1984 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London and in Oxford. Its cassette tape edition featured on the B-side a twin album of anomalies, titled Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984.

In the summer of 1982, legal problems with the actual Salvation Army forced the band to change their name. ''The Three O'Clock'' came from the time of day the band rehearsed. This is an unreleased live recording from 1982 at Wilson Park in Torrance, CA and was recorded right before The Salvation Army was forced to change their name.

Este grupo norteamericano de rock y hard rock originarios de la ciudad de Cleveland, Ohio, atesoran tras de si una rica pero poco valorada obra discográfica y que es primordial en la historia del rock; por él habrían de pasar excelentes músicos, fundamentales luego en el devenir de bandas importantes dentro del panorama rock La formación inicial cuenta con Glen Schwartz (guitarra), Tom Kriss (bajo) y el líder y fundador, el batería Jim Fox que a mediados de 1966 logran una reputada fama en el circuito de rock de Cleveland y sus alrededores. Pero esta alineación duraría poco ya que a principios del 69, Schwartz abandona para unirse al grupo Pacific Gas and Electric y es sustituido por el guitarrista Joe Walsh, quien pronto toma las riendas del grupo con su personalidad y su talento. En esta época el grupo llego a talonear a Cream en la ciudad de Detroit, realizando una soberbia actuación que no hizo más que asentar la calidad e incrementar la popularidad del grupo a nivel nacional. El primer LP, Yer album (69), les revela como gran banda. Tras él se va Kriss y entra Dale Peters (bajo y voz). Con esta formación, el trío graba sus tres mejores obras: Rides again (70), Thirds (71) y el doble LP grabado en vivo Live in concert (72). Y con el respaldo de Pete Townshend, James Gang se presentan en Europa con gran éxito, teloneando a The Who. Posteriormente la banda intervendría en la película Zachariah, un musical western surrealista basado en la novela de Herman Hesse; Siddartha. En noviembre de 1971, Joe Walsh decide abandonar la nave para seguir en solitario una carrera llena de éxitos. Walsh junto a Joe Vitale y Kenny Passarelli formarían la banda Barnstorm y publicaron su primer álbum Barnstorm (1972) y un año despues el excelente álbum The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get (1973) que contenía el hit Rock Mountain Way que se convertiría en uno de los clásicos del rock de todos los tiempos. Poco después la desgracia de ceba con Walsh al perder a su hija pequeña en un atropello. Destrozado por esta perdida Walsh decide disolver el grupo y se retira durante mas de un año, hasta que casi a finales de 1974 se anima a publicar su primer álbum en solitario So What (1974) al que seguirán los exitosos You Can't Argue with a Sick Mind (1976), But Seriously Folks (1978) o There Goes The Neighborhood.(1981). Pero sin duda seria su entrada como guitarrista de The Eagles y su primordial contribución al apoteósico Hotel California (1976) y al magnifico The long Run (1979) lo que le llevaría al estrellato mas absoluto. Pero siguiendo con James Gang, después del abandono de Joe Walsh la banda se amplia con varios músicos mas por un lado Domenic Troyano (guitarra y voz) y por otro Roy Kenner (voz) que junto a Fox y Peters, graban los álbumes Straight shooter (72) y Passin' thru' (73). En 1973, es Troyano quien abandona para unirse a The Guess Who, siendo reemplazado por el guitarrista Tommy Bolin con el se publican los brillantes Bang (73) y Miami (74). Pero el año siguiente Bolin acepta la llamada de Roger Glover para unirse a Deep Purple en sustitución de Ritchie Blackmore, siendo seguido de Kenner, que también deja la banda. En 1975, Fox y Peters reaparecen con Rick Shack (guitarra) y Buba Keith (guitarra y voz), con quienes graban los mediocres Newborn (75) y Jesé come home (76), que se convierten en los dos últimos trabajos oficiales del grupo y posteriormente se precipita la disolución definitiva de James Gang. Ya en 1972 se había editado el recopilatorio The best of James Gang, con lo mejor de la etapa estelar, en la que Joe Walsh era el hombre fundamental de una banda que ha pasado a la historia como una de las pioneras del hard rock norteamericano. Este digibook, junto con un espaciador, se encaja en un estuche rígido que muestra en su lomo un led pulsátil. Sin embargo, el led ya no funciona al haberse agotado la batería; debido a ser éste el diseño de la primera edición del álbum, no es posible reemplazar dicha batería. Condición de los discos: disco 1, como nuevo, no muestra el menor desperfecto bajo cualquier ángulo de luz; disco 2, excelente, presenta mínimas señales bajo ciertos ángulos de luz, sin afectar en absoluto a la calidad de sonido. The first major-label, digitally recorded album,  Bop  is a nice set of moderately known to obscure tunes from the '50s and '60s (along with a  Cooder / Tim Drummond  original) that doesn't always live up to its promise.  Cooder  and his excellent band, which includes the rhythm section of  Tim Drummond  and  Jim Keltner  along with guitarist  David Lindley, understand the material and are more than capable of laying down a decent groove, but something must have gotten lost in translation from what was played to what came across on the recording. There's a thinness to the tracks that undermines the performances, which according to  Cooder  is due to the digital recording. If you check out the live version of  Bop Till You Drop 's opener, "Little Sister," from the No Nukes record (using the same band), you can see what surely could have been. Still,  Bop  is worthwhile given  Cooder 's penchant for choosing great tunes, as well as the tight performances, brilliant guitar work, and a handful of great guest vocalists (including  Chaka Khan). A few of the highlights include his arrangement of the early-'60s  Elvis  hit "Little Sister," the soulful "The Very Thing That Makes You Rich (Makes Me Poor)," an instrumental take on  Ike & Tina Turner 's "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine," and "I Can't Win," featuring  Cooder 's longtime cohort  Bobby King  on lead vocal.
