Great Balls of Fire! is a 1989 American biographical film directed by Jim McBride and starring Dennis Quaid as rockabilly pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis. Based on a biography by Myra Lewis and Murray M. Silver, Jr., the screenplay is written by McBride and Jack Baran. The film is produced by Adam Fields, with executive producers credited as Michael Grais, Mark Victor, and Art Levinson. The early career of Jerry Lee Lewis, from his rise to rock and roll stardom to his controversial marriage to his 13-year-old cousin that led to his downfall, is depicted in the film. Until the scandal of the marriage depreciated his image, many had thought Lewis would supplant Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock and Roll" in the 1950s. The story was co-written by Myra Gail Lewis (her autobiography Great Balls of Fire!), the former wife of Jerry Lee Lewis, with Murray Silver. Despite this, co-writer Silver was upset by the lack of accuracy in the film, claiming it was "phoney". Director Jim McBride admitted that it was never his intention to tie his film to the facts, and stated "This movie does not represent itself in any way to be a historical documentary. We use the book as a jumping-off point." Lewis has openly stated that he hates the film and the book it was based on. Lewis did, however, praise Quaid's portrayal of him in the film, saying "he really pulled it off".Quaid even learned to play "Lewis-style" piano for the role. This was the final film of character actor Trey Wilson. He died at age forty from a cerebral hemorrhage in January 1989, prior to the film's release. An original motion picture soundtrack was released by the producers on the Polydor Records label on June 8, 1989. Lewis re-recorded his music from the 1950s for the soundtrack with the title track " Great Balls of Fire," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "That Lucky Old Sun." The soundtrack contains 12 tracks. A music video of the song "Great Balls of Fire", with Quaid and Lewis playing the piano and containing snippets of scenes from the film, was featured on the original VHS video release preceding the film. "Lewis Boogie" is also in the film during the closing credits but does not appear on the soundtrack album.

The first major-label, digitally recorded album,  Bop  is a nice set of moderately known to obscure tunes from the '50s and '60s (along with a  Cooder / Tim Drummond  original) that doesn't always live up to its promise.  Cooder  and his excellent band, which includes the rhythm section of  Tim Drummond  and  Jim Keltner  along with guitarist  David Lindley, understand the material and are more than capable of laying down a decent groove, but something must have gotten lost in translation from what was played to what came across on the recording. There's a thinness to the tracks that undermines the performances, which according to  Cooder  is due to the digital recording. If you check out the live version of  Bop Till You Drop 's opener, "Little Sister," from the No Nukes record (using the same band), you can see what surely could have been. Still,  Bop  is worthwhile given  Cooder 's penchant for choosing great tunes, as well as the tight performances, brilliant guitar work, and a handful of great guest vocalists (including  Chaka Khan). A few of the highlights include his arrangement of the early-'60s  Elvis  hit "Little Sister," the soulful "The Very Thing That Makes You Rich (Makes Me Poor)," an instrumental take on  Ike & Tina Turner 's "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine," and "I Can't Win," featuring  Cooder 's longtime cohort  Bobby King  on lead vocal.

Carla Bozulich decided to hunt down what was killing her and rip it to shreds, unsure how but doing it anyway. She put together a great band. They were lucky in lots of ways. The drive behind the project was to burn up indoctrination and shame and guy-centric rock, and to have fun with friends in the L.A. scene. They weren't trying to break barriers or be the best, just to scratch their way out of the cold, cold ground and to make and play some fresh songs. The band for this record was Bill Tutton (contra-bass), Kevin Fitzgerald (drums), Daniel Keenan (guitar), Jesse Greene (violin) and Carla Bozulich (vox, guitar). Highly artistic work, Mahler's Fifth Symphony is of great extension and expressive intensity; it is full of deep symbolism and evident spirituality. It is a musical and intellectual monument testing the quality of an orchestra and its conductor. It is a challenge that, in a market full of references to the Austrian composer's masterpiece, the OFM faces with all the potential the work demands. In his first four symphonies, Mahler tried to identify with four ideas: the first, the power of will against destiny; the second, hope in the resurrection; in the third a certain 'Nietzschean' pantheism, and the fourth is a musical manifesto about innocence. There is in all of them that kind of youthful lyricism which its first songs have, a style that is nipped in the bud in his Fifth Symphony, completed in 1902 and premiered in Cologne by the Gürzenich Orchestra on 18 October 1904 under the direction of the author. The language he uses in his Fifth Symphony seems to be anticipating the future, in a kind of progressive tonality tending towards a certain harmonic instability and reinforcing the words of the composer himself. Discográfica:   Real Gone Music Arguing about which of Martin Scorsese's pictures is his best is fodder for an all-night bull session, but of one thing there can be no doubt: the guy is obsessed with music. Many of his greatest films have either been about music (e.g. The Last Waltz or the recent Dylan Rolling Thunder 'mockumentary') or have featured a veritable mixtape for a soundtrack; in fact, sometimes it's hard to tell which came first, the montage accompanying the music, or his desire to have a particular song appear in a movie come hell or high water. That's because nobody, but nobody, cuts film to a great rock and roll tune like Scorsese (and his legendary editor Thelma Schoonmaker); and of all his films, it's his lone Best Picture winner, The Departed, that arguably is propelled the most by its soundtrack. The Dropkick Murphys' 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston' during Leonardo DiCaprio's stint in jail is the real scene-stealer, but the version of 'Comfortably Numb' during his love scene with Vera Farmiga is another highlight, albeit a controversial one (folks either love it or hate it). The rest of the soundtrack lives up to those two selections'it's safe to say The Departed wouldn't have gotten its Best Picture nod without Scorsese's canny music choices. In contrast,  Nick Lowe 's second album,  Labour of Lust, is the work of a bar band, in this case  Rockpile, playing the hell out of the same type of songs. Naturally, the result is a more coherent sound that may be a little less freewheelingly eclectic, but it is no less brilliant. Recorded simultaneously with  Dave Edmunds '  Repeat When Necessary,  Labour of Lust  benefits from the muscular support of  Rockpile, who make  Lowe 's songs crackle with vitality. Working primarily in the roots rock vein of  Brinsley Schwarz  but energizing his traditionalist tendencies with strong pop melodies, a sense of humor, and an edgy new wave sensibility,  Lowe  comes up with one of his best sets of songs. Not only is his only hit, the propulsively hook-laden "Cruel to Be Kind," here, but so are the rampaging outsider anthem "Born Fighter," the tongue-in-cheek,  Chuck Berry -style "Love So Fine," the wonderful pure pop of "Dose of You," the haunting "Endless Grey Ribbon," the druggy "Big Kick, Plain Scrap!," and the terrific "Cracking Up," as well as his definitive version of  Mickey Jupp 's "Switchboard Susan." It's an exceptional collection of inventive pop songs, delivered with vigor and energy, making it one of the great records of the new wave.
