Este grupo norteamericano de rock y hard rock originarios de la ciudad de Cleveland, Ohio, atesoran tras de si una rica pero poco valorada obra discográfica y que es primordial en la historia del rock; por él habrían de pasar excelentes músicos, fundamentales luego en el devenir de bandas importantes dentro del panorama rock La formación inicial cuenta con Glen Schwartz (guitarra), Tom Kriss (bajo) y el líder y fundador, el batería Jim Fox que a mediados de 1966 logran una reputada fama en el circuito de rock de Cleveland y sus alrededores. Pero esta alineación duraría poco ya que a principios del 69, Schwartz abandona para unirse al grupo Pacific Gas and Electric y es sustituido por el guitarrista Joe Walsh, quien pronto toma las riendas del grupo con su personalidad y su talento. En esta época el grupo llego a talonear a Cream en la ciudad de Detroit, realizando una soberbia actuación que no hizo más que asentar la calidad e incrementar la popularidad del grupo a nivel nacional. El primer LP, Yer album (69), les revela como gran banda. Tras él se va Kriss y entra Dale Peters (bajo y voz). Con esta formación, el trío graba sus tres mejores obras: Rides again (70), Thirds (71) y el doble LP grabado en vivo Live in concert (72). Y con el respaldo de Pete Townshend, James Gang se presentan en Europa con gran éxito, teloneando a The Who. Posteriormente la banda intervendría en la película Zachariah, un musical western surrealista basado en la novela de Herman Hesse; Siddartha. En noviembre de 1971, Joe Walsh decide abandonar la nave para seguir en solitario una carrera llena de éxitos. Walsh junto a Joe Vitale y Kenny Passarelli formarían la banda Barnstorm y publicaron su primer álbum Barnstorm (1972) y un año despues el excelente álbum The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get (1973) que contenía el hit Rock Mountain Way que se convertiría en uno de los clásicos del rock de todos los tiempos. Poco después la desgracia de ceba con Walsh al perder a su hija pequeña en un atropello. Destrozado por esta perdida Walsh decide disolver el grupo y se retira durante mas de un año, hasta que casi a finales de 1974 se anima a publicar su primer álbum en solitario So What (1974) al que seguirán los exitosos You Can't Argue with a Sick Mind (1976), But Seriously Folks (1978) o There Goes The Neighborhood.(1981). Pero sin duda seria su entrada como guitarrista de The Eagles y su primordial contribución al apoteósico Hotel California (1976) y al magnifico The long Run (1979) lo que le llevaría al estrellato mas absoluto. Pero siguiendo con James Gang, después del abandono de Joe Walsh la banda se amplia con varios músicos mas por un lado Domenic Troyano (guitarra y voz) y por otro Roy Kenner (voz) que junto a Fox y Peters, graban los álbumes Straight shooter (72) y Passin' thru' (73). En 1973, es Troyano quien abandona para unirse a The Guess Who, siendo reemplazado por el guitarrista Tommy Bolin con el se publican los brillantes Bang (73) y Miami (74). Pero el año siguiente Bolin acepta la llamada de Roger Glover para unirse a Deep Purple en sustitución de Ritchie Blackmore, siendo seguido de Kenner, que también deja la banda. En 1975, Fox y Peters reaparecen con Rick Shack (guitarra) y Buba Keith (guitarra y voz), con quienes graban los mediocres Newborn (75) y Jesé come home (76), que se convierten en los dos últimos trabajos oficiales del grupo y posteriormente se precipita la disolución definitiva de James Gang. Ya en 1972 se había editado el recopilatorio The best of James Gang, con lo mejor de la etapa estelar, en la que Joe Walsh era el hombre fundamental de una banda que ha pasado a la historia como una de las pioneras del hard rock norteamericano. TINARIWEN - AMADJAR TINARIWEN - AMADJAR Amadjar means ‘the unknown visitor’ in the language of Tamashek, the one who seeks hospitality and who’s condemned to an inner exile, within a territory or within himself. The story of Amadjar, the ninth Tinariwen album, begins at the end of 2018, at the Taragalte Festival of nomadic cultures in the Moroccan Sahara. After a concert and a sandstorm, Tinariwen hit the road and head for Mauritania, via southern Morocco, Western Sahara and the Atlantic coast. The destination is important but no more so than the journey itself. Tinariwen are joined by their French production team, who arrive in old camper van that’s been converted into a makeshift studio. The journey to Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, takes a dozen days or so. Every evening, the caravan stops to set up camp and the members of Tinariwen get to work under the stars – to prepare for the recording, talking things through, letting their guitar motifs, thoughts and long buried songs come. Then, during a final camp in the desert around Nouakchott that lasts about fifteen days, to an audience of scorpions, the band record their songs under large tent. In a few takes, without headphones or effects. The Mauritanian griotte Noura Mint Seymali and her guitarist husband, Jeiche Ould Chigaly, come to throw their musical tradition on the embers lit by Tinariwen – the curling vocals of Noura Mint Seymali on the song ‘Amalouna’ will become a highlight. This nomadic album, recorded in a natural setting, is as close as you can get to Tinariwen. And also, therefore, to the idea that things can evolve: bassist Eyadou plays a lot of acoustic guitar; percussionist Said tries his hand at new instruments; Abdallah exhumes songs that he’s never played on stage with Tinariwen. And that violin that appears on several songs and reminds you of the traditional imzad; It’s actually played by Warren Ellis. The violinist in Nick Cave’s band is one of several western guests on the album. We also hear the mandolin and charango of Micah

While  Oldfield  is an amazing guitarist who could play with the best of them, with a lithe synth touch that became a trademark, the bottom line is that the man is a serious composer. All the proof one needs apart from his own records like  Incantations  and  Hergest Ridge  is this killer movie score. While  Oldfield  used a purely Western and neo-classical formal approach to write the music for  Roland Joffé 's dramatization of true events, his musical mates were among the best in the business at helping him to bring it off:  David Bedford  wrote arrangements and directed the choir, while  Eberhard Schoener  helped to conduct and direct another choir (!) and master percussionist  Morris Pert  lent his talents to the mix as well. While many scores written during the 1980s come off as laughable fluff in the 21st century,  Oldfield 's score for The Killing Fields is in many ways far more memorable than the film itself. The music here is full of drama, dynamic, textures, and unexpected twists and turns even in the smallest of the incidental pieces, and carries within it a certain majesty that lacks pomp and remains graceful throughout.

The music in this collection is from the 1960s through the 1980s and is all but forgotten by many Sumatrans who seem to prefer a more contemporary sound. Many of the older cassette tapes have disappeared from the markets and shops and are now thought of as antiques. As in many other countries around the world, modern technology has eclipsed the need for full ensembles/more organic forms of these pseudo-traditional styles. Keep in mind that this is not a document for the mere purpose of preservation, although it may serve as such. Quaid was invited to join the band onstage. At fi rst reluctant, because of his decade-long layoff from music, Quaid fi nally acquiesced, and his performance sparked a musical kinship between Jamie James-guitar player in Stanton's band and the Kingbees' front man-and Quaid that led to them forming their own band. James quickly began recruiting others for the band and it wasn't long before Dennis Quaid & The Sharks were performing on the L.A. club circuit. Quaid was certainly no stranger to either the recording studio or the stage being a seasoned actor and having cut songs for soundtracks to his movies dating back to the '80s with contributions to soundtracks like The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia, Tough Enough, The Big Easy, and more. Music had always been important to Quaid, ''As far back as I can remember, music has always been a big part of my life. My third cousin was Gene Autry, the original Western movie singing cowboy. My grandmother played piano and sang songs from the '20s, songs from her youth. My dad played piano and crooned like Bing Crosby and looked a little like Dean Martin.'' Due to post war austerity maintaining a large band was too costly and the result was the beginning of small combos. The cowboy singers had to be heard and amplification of the instruments was replacing the acoustic cowboy sound, they had to play louder at Juke Joints to be heard over the often rowdy crowds. The music itself is a wonderful rhythmic fusion of hillbilly and western music blended with black blues and rhythm influences. The album is informatively annotated by Kevin Coffey offering fascinating insights into the artist's music and the musicians who provided the compelling rhythms. The 100g, 10 vinyl album is housed in a high quality gatefold sleeve which opens out to display numerous vintage images with many rare photographs to add a face to the music.

La Marshall Tucker, fue la banda que cerró el triángulo de oro dentro del rock sureño junto a las otras dos más representativas del género, The Allman Brothers Band y Lynyrd Skynyrd, teniendo cada una de estas formaciones caminos y orientaciones diferentes, pero tomando como base el sonido y sentimiento sureño como raíz de su música. El distintivo esencial de la Marshall y el sello único e inconfundible que marcó su obra fue el Country-Rock y la cultura "cowboy ", adoptando cierta actitud derivada del "salvaje oeste" en su música, llevada a cabo con gran acierto por los hermanos Toy y Tommy Caldwell. Nunca renunciaron a otros estilos como el rythm & blues, rock, blues o incluso el jazz, dada las aportaciones de unos magníficos, extraordinarios e incansables músicos que eran pura energía, sobre todo en sus memorables directos. Realizaban actuaciones increíbles, llegando incluso a ser delirantes para un público súper entregado. "Where We All Belong" doble álbum y tercero en su discografía, fue publicado en 1975 y se compone de una parte grabada en estudio y otra en directo, además de suponer un punto crucial en su carrera. Comienzan con el clásico "This Ol'Cowboy", un bello tema dedicado al héroe de Toy Caldwell, el actor y mito eterno del Western, John Wayne. Como dato anecdótico, posteriormente Caldwell le compraría el caballo que utilizó en 1969 en la oscarizada "True Grit" (Valor de ley). De claro estilo country-rock, con el uso de instrumentos propios del género como el banjo, Steel- guitar, la flauta o el violín, nos encontramos temas como "Low Down Ways", o una auténtica balada romántica "In My Own Way". El resto de temas de esta parte fueron grabados en los estudios Capricorn, todos ellos soberbios y podemos destacar "Where A Country Boy Legends", que contó con la ayuda de un guitarrista excepcional llamado Elvin Bishop, que en años anteriores participó con los Allman Brothers y en esta ocasión a la slide-guitar. En la parte de estudio, la Marshall estuvo formada por Toy Caldwell a las guitarras, su hermano Tommy Caldwell (bajo), George McCorkle (guitarra y banjo), Jerry Eubanks (flauta y saxo), Doug Gray (voz) y Paul Riddle a la batería. Estos eran los integrantes originales de la banda, a la que se incorporaron un buen número de músicos de reputado prestigio como fue el caso del legendario Charlie Daniels al violín, Paul Hornsby al piano, Johnny Vernazza a la slide y entre otros, al anteriormente mencionado Elvin Bishop. La segunda parte del álbum fue capturada el 11 de julio de 1974 en el Uhlein Hall Arts Center de Milwaukee, con la banda original y la inestimable colaboración de Charlie Daniels. Abren con la incendiaria y explosiva "Ramblin'", un tema rápido con un Toy imparable a la guitarra eléctrica, equiparándose a leyendas como Duane Allman. En "24 Hours At A Time", se puede disfrutar de uno de los temas más recordados y de una formación sobresaliente, ejecutando una colosal jam que se convertiría en su himno oficial. A continuación desgranando el clásico de B.B King "Everyday (I Have The Blues)", una Marshall pletórica nos obsequia con otro espléndido tema. Y para finalizar "Take The Higway", otro de sus clásicos. Unidos bajo un mismo sentimiento, "The Marshall Tucker Band" originarios de Spartanburg en Carolina del Sur nos dejan uno de sus álbumes más célebres, siendo uno de los mejores exponentes dentro del rock-sureño y narrándonos sus epopeyas por el "viejo oeste" como si fuésemos viajando en una antigua diligencia... Esta banda maravillosa formada en 1971 en Spartanburg, Carolina del Sur, por los hermanos Caldwell, Toy a la guitarra y Tommy al bajo, el cantante Doug Gray, el guitarrista George McCorkle, el batería Paul Riddle, así como Jerry Eubanks a las flautas, combinaba a la perfección el Rock, con el country, con el blues y con el Jazz. La banda adquirió un notable reconocimiento en los años 70 (época de apogeo del Rock Sureño), pero la muerte de Tommy Caldwell en accidente de coche en 1980, y el abandono de Toy Caldwell en 1982 para iniciar una carrera en solitario llevó a que la banda se disolviera en 1983. A finales de los 80 la banda se reformó, liderada por Gray y Eubanks, y con diversas formaciones y con muchos cambios, la banda sigue hoy en día, aunque lejos del esplendor de los años 70.- Yo reconozco que le tengo un cariño especial a esta disco, que está compuesto en parte por material de estudio, y en parte por grabaciones en directo. Destacan, además de la mencionada "How can i slow down", temas como "This Ol' Cowboy", "Low down ways", o la brutal "Ramblin'".
