Sobreviviré".  Así que los cerca de 20,000 Deadheads que llenaron el Brendan Byrne Arena en East Rutherford, Nueva Jersey el 7 de abril de 1987 cantaron, al unísono con los Grateful Dead, en el número de apertura de lo que se conoció como un espectáculo Dead de primera clase.  Las palabras fatales provinieron, por supuesto, de "Touch of Grey", el único sencillo Top 40 del grupo, que alcanzaría el puesto número 9 en el Billboard Hot 100, y que sigue siendo probablemente la canción más conocida del enorme catálogo de la banda.  Gira en apoyo de su álbum In the Dark de 1987, que engendró el single mencionado anteriormente, los fanáticos se deleitaron con la nueva energía exhibida por el líder, y de hecho el resto del grupo.  Muchos de los asistentes informaron haber visto un arco iris sobre el estacionamiento antes del concierto, y esto se tomó como un presagio de lo que vendría. Opening with a shocking Eyes Of The World, the Dead were firing on all cylinders from the openingnotes of the show. Featuring beloved classics such as Truckin’ and Uncle John’s Band. Rarities played at this showincluded Saint Of Circumstance, Might As Well, New Speedway Boogie, and China Doll, but the real standout inregards to the setlist choices was the recurrence of Dark Star, which wove in and out of the setlist throughout theshow, including during the first set, making no less than six distinct appearances during the show. With an encoreof The Band's The Weight, the Dead cap off one of their most highly regarded shows ever with a perfect songchoice to send the crowd on its way. Bruce Hornsby and Vince Welnick join Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh,Mickey Hart & Bill Kreutzmann to round out this stellar line-up.
