SEWING FROM THE BEGINNING I …..Best Selling sewing kit for youngsters. Sewing is a wonderful skill for children. It trains hand-eye co-ordination and it’ skills of concentration in an age of fast paced media based entertainment can be a quiet distraction for child and parent alike! This kit has been designed specifically for junior sewers with the advice of educational professionals. Let me tell you about this Kit! Except for scissors, everything needed is enclosed to sew this sampler, the idea being that your child can get on with it quietly unaided and there are some parental notes for the bemused parent who has barely sewn on a button! I have tentatively aged both kits (the  first kit from 8-10 and the second from 11-13) because parents do tend to ask for this information however to be honest all children are different and really only you will know your child’s artistic talents or specific interests. This first project (Kit I)  starts with the most basic stitches and develop into threaded, looped or crossed stitches. This kit also teaches about following easy charts of small cross stitch patterns. All the instructions in both kits comprise of both photographic and written directions. Much thought has gone into them and I have been lucky enough to have been advised throughout by a team of willing primary school teachers! The contents of the kit contents itself comprises of a large metal needle, ‘Binca’, a large holed fabric you may remember from school! and beautiful DMC Soft Cotton which is nice and easy for children. I have pre-cut the strands for ease of use and they are placed on a card with clearly marked names and colour patches. Far from it being an old fashioned or outmoded pastime, embroidery is more popular than ever and indeed, many of my American parents still see it as an essential part of their children's traditional domestic education.(Hurrah!) Pattern Size 15cm x 17cm (Both kits) A bit about the Second Kit!... The second kit (Kit II), featured in the other listing in this section moves on to the beginnings of embroidery introducing Chain Stitch, Stem Stitch, Buttonhole Stitch and several others and is in the prettiest pastels and add some little sparkles (Though self adhesive, a blob of glue will be needed.)
