SIMPLE MINDS - REJUVENATION 2001-2014 VINYL B SIMPLE MINDS - REJUVENATION 2001-2014 VINYL B Limited six colored vinyl LP pressing. After leaving the Virgin label, and a one-off album with Chrysalis, Simple Minds took stock and decided to make records for themselves. An album of cover versions of songs dear to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, Neon Lights, was released in 2001, followed by Cry in 2002, an album of new compositions recorded in Glasgow and Sicily. The recordings for Black and White 050505 were completed on the 5th May 2005, hence the title. This album and Neon Lights and Cry make their first appearances on vinyl in this box set, with specially-created outer and inner sleeves, and include some exclusive bonus tracks from the CD releases. Graffiti Soul continued the band's return to the top, charting at # 10 in May 2009. Big Music was released in October 2014, charting at #12. All the albums are pressed on different coloured 180 gram vinyl, and the rigid slipcase features a brand new note by Jim Kerr.

Jones  (11-12-44, Memphis) son el esqueleto de las grabaciones del sello Stax y uno de los  equipos de sonido más impecables de los años 60, tanto por su respaldo instrumental de otros artistas como a nivel de grupo.  Esos chicos blancos y negros representaban oficialmente el sonido de Memphis. En 1956, Jerry Wexler llevó a Wilson Pickett a Memphis para una serie de grabaciones: de allí salió 'In the midnight hour', su primer éxito de un millón de copias, debido, además de a la voz profunda de Pickett, a la batería de Al Jackson, más elaborada y atrayente de lo habitual. With bassist  Sam Jones  and drummer  Bobby Durham,  Peterson  tears into the old gospel favorite "Travelin' On" with a passion second to none. Following it is a beautiful treatment of  Johnny Mandel 's timeless ballad "Emily," which runs for over ten minutes but never loses its impact.  Durham  sets the pace with his soft percussion to set up  Antonio Carlos Jobim 's "Corcovado" (later known as "Quiet Nights"), though  Peterson  devours the song whole with a breathtaking display of his formidable technique.  Francy Boland 's "Sax No End" was a relatively new composition, having been recorded for the first time just the previous year by the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. But one can almost hear a larger ensemble by listening to  Peterson 's virtuoso interpretation in an uptempo setting, assisted by  Jones ' agile bass and  Durham 's steady percussion.  Peterson  cools off his audience with an extended exploration of  Benny Carter 's "When Lights Are Low," though his fresh approach makes it seem like a brand new composition. Like other releases in  Oscar Peterson 's Exclusively for My Friends series,  Travelin' On  is warmly recommended.
