Tras la edición de este disco, el dúo se trasladó a Nueva York, donde se les añadieron David Yarritu y Eden (Fiona Russell-Powell) al grupo, sólo para los efectos visuales, sin tocar ningún instrumento ni cantar. A principios de 1985 se publicó el brillante y pegadizo single Be near me, que subió hasta el puesto 26 de las listas británicas. Debido al éxito del single, How to be a...millionaire! consiguió entrar en el Top 30 tanto en Reino Unido como en Estados Unidos. Be near me se publicó a finales de 1985 en Estados Unidos, convirtiéndose en el primer Top 10 del grupo en este país. A pesar de los éxitos regulares del grupo durante 1985, los siguientes singles, Vanity kills y Ocean blue, se estancaron en los charts. ABC fue una de las primeras bandas que utilizó la técnica del video scratching para algunos vídeos de How to be a... Zillionaire, como el de Be near me. Four singles were released from this album, "(How to Be A) Millionaire " (UK: 49, US: 20), " Be Near Me " (UK singles chart: 26, US Billboard Hot 100: 9), " Vanity Kills " (UK: 74, US: 91), and the fourth was " Ocean Blue ", (UK: 54). The album peaked on the UK Albums Chart at 28 and on the Billboard 200 at 30. On the cover the album's title is in the foreground lit up like a spotlight against a tri-tone background on which various quotes of the album's lyrics can be seen. There is also a drop shadow behind the title. No dialogue at the start of the song " Vanity Kills ". Eden (see band line up in next section) does the harmony vocal on the song " Ocean Blue ". Guitars completely absent from Side Two/Tracks 6–10. No cursing from Eden in the song "A to Z". Four seconds of silence between "A to Z" and "(How to Be a) Millionaire". Eden performs the breakdown vocal and plays the instrumental solo in the song "(How to Be a) Millionaire".

The band was formed in 1973 by former members of  Stoneground  and  It's a Beautiful Day: guitarist  Dave Jenkins, keyboardist  Cory Lerios, bassist  Bud Cockrell, and drummer  Steve Price. The group was praised for its compositional and instrumental skill on the albums  Pablo Cruise  and  Lifeline, and was rewarded with the Top Ten hit "Whatcha Gonna Do?" in 1977 from  A Place in the Sun.  Cockrell  left and was replaced by former  Santana  bassist  Bruce Day.  Worlds Away  went platinum, as did its predecessor, and produced three hit singles, including the Top Ten "Love Will Find a Way." By the time the '80s rolled around, the new wave movement was in full swing on the pop charts, and the group fell out of favor with the record-buying public. Several  Pablo Cruise  songs were used as soundtrack material for sports programs on ABC, CBS, and NBC, and the band's work also appeared in the films Free Ride, An Unmarried Woman, and Dreamer.

EBERHARD SCHOENER (STING / ANDY SUMMERS) - VIDEO MAGIC - VINILO ORIGINAL 1978 HARVEST ALEMANIA EBERHARD SCHOENER (STING / ANDY SUMMERS) - VIDEO MAGIC - VINILO ORIGINAL 1978 HARVEST ALEMANIA A raíz de su colaboración con Jon Lord, más conocido por ser el teclista de los Deep Purple, Andy Summers entró en contacto con Eberhard – quien se encargaba por aquel entonces de orquestar algunos temas del álbum de Lord “Sarabande” (1976) – quien le ofreció la oportunidad de grabar en Munich varias pistas de guitarra para el proyecto que preparaba, “The book” (1977). Schoener quedó tan contento con el resultado que contrató a Andy para “Trance-formation” (1977), en donde tuvo absoluta libertad para grabar en los huecos que le dejaba la banda a la que acababa de vincularse, The Police.El numeroso y bien remunerado trabajo que ofrece Schoener pronto alcanza a los tres miembros de la banda – el conductor alemán no necesitaba un bajista pero cambió de opinión cuando escuchó cantar a Sting, decidiendo incluir también su voz en sus recargados espectáculos -, quienes aprovechan la estancia en Munich – en noviembre del 77 – para grabar un álbum, “Flashback” (1978) y dar alguna comparecencia en vivo. Eberhard Schoener necesitaba una banda de músicos versátiles para formar parte del show que estaba creando.Nosotros acabábamos de formar The Police y necesitábamos desesperadamente fondos para mantener con vida nuestros sueños de estrellato. tracks: •octogon •speech behind speech •natural high •code-word elvis •video-magic •night bound city •san francisco waitress •koan Featuring Sting (Police), Andy Summers (Police), Evert Fraterman and Olaf Kubler.  Eberhard Schoener is a German composer, conductor, arranger, and keyboard player.   Now let it be known that I am reviewing the original German print of Eberhard Schoener's Video Magic on the Harvest label, rather than a compilation called Video Magic released in 1979 that consisted of material from both Video Magic and Flashback (1978) (often called Video Flashback, especially later on to avoid confusion). Now this has got to be the most unusual thing on the face of the planet: to hear The Police do prog rock. On Schoener's previous album, Flashback, he had all three members, Sting, Andy Summers play on that album. I have to say I hadn't heard that one. With Video Magic, Stewart Copeland sat this one out, with Evert Fraterman in his place. I have to let you know that Schoener had Andy Summers play on many of his albums even way before The Police ever existed. The album opens with " Octagon ", which is an instrumental piece, dominated by Andy Summers guitar playing. Here, I get reminded so much more of Pink Floyd than anything The Police would ever do. Sting here is sticking to bass duty. " Speech Behind Speech " is a real trip: totally drenched with Mellotron, and Sting here is doing the singing. You know right away that Sting's voice is perfect for the usual music you expect the Police to do, but in a prog setting, it sounds really peculiar. " Natural High ", again has Sting doing vocals, it's about as close to The Police sound you're gonna get here, but it's still packed with Mellotron, and is actually an excellent song. All this Mellotron work came from Schoener himself. " Code Word Elvis " is largely an orchestral piece, no surprise, given that Eberhard Schoener had spent his time conducting orchestras. " Night Bound City " is a purely electronic piece that you know none of the dudes from The Police participated in, while " San Francisco Waitress " brings to mind Sting's post-Police solo albums like Dream of the Blue Turtles, especially because of the jazzy feel and sax (although sax here is by Olaf Kübler, who used a tenor sax, unlike Branford Marsalis who tended to soprano sax). The last piece, "Koan" is an instrumental piece that tends to be rather minimalist. Now this isn't going to be the greatest thing you'll ever hear. Police fans might find it a bit unsettling to see their heroes doing prog rock, and neither is it the most cohesive album out there (Schoener couldn't decide whether to do prog rock, electronic, or orchestral music), but if you're a proghead and you wonder what would happen if the Police were a prog rock band, give this album a try (you can also see that The Police would never be anywhere as popular as they were if they were a prog rock band, beside they came during the punk/new wave era and capitalized on that instead, which was to their benefit). But get this album if you can find it for cheap, which is what I did. Don't overspend. File this under: curiosity.

La edición en cassette fue doble, ya que contenía el resto de caras B y se tituló Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984. El disco es el resultado de las grabaciones de los conciertos que dio la banda en el actual Hammersmith Apollo de Londres y en Oxford en mayo de 1984. La portada fue diseñada por el mismo Robert Smith, bajo el seudónimo de Toberr, con un fotograma de vídeo de una emisión de televisión en directo el 25 de agosto de 1984 durante el concierto que The Cure ofrecieron en el Barrowland Ballroom situado en Glasgow, Escocia y que tenía la intención de que ilustrase un disco pirata de la banda. The album was a Top 10 hit in the UK, and was their first studio album to break the Billboard 200 in the US, reaching number 180. Melody Maker praised the album as "psychedelia that can't be dated", while pondering, "I've yet to meet anyone who can tell me why the Cure are having hits now of all times." The Cure then embarked on their worldwide Top Tour with Thompson, Anderson and producer-turned-bassist Phil Thornalley on board. Released in late 1984, The Cure's first live album, Concert consisted of performances from this tour. Near the tour's end, Anderson was fired for destroying a hotel room and was replaced by Boris Williams. Thornalley also left because of the stress of touring. However, the bassist slot was not vacant long, for a Cure roadie named Gary Biddles had brokered a reunion between Smith and former bassist Simon Gallup, who had been playing in the band Fools Dance. Soon after reconciling, Smith asked Gallup to rejoin the band. Concert: The Cure Live is the first live album of English rock band The Cure. It was recorded in 1984 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London and in Oxford. Its cassette tape edition featured on the B-side a twin album of anomalies, titled Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984.

This performance by Brian Auger is also unique as it's the first appearance with Julie Driscoll so while a large portion of the audience applauded, wanting more of Brian, many booed when Julie Driscoll sang as her vocals and presence was a new element within the group. The festival's artistic concept has been to document, support, and validate trends in jazz, and to mirror the diversity of creative musical activity. The vinyl will be pressed on translucent Boris Purple.

'Chi Ami' was also used as the theme for the BBC-TV series 'The Life and Times of David Lloyd George' and reached the 2nd place in the UK Pop charts in 1981. Leaving behind the more traditional trappings of his R&B-inflected debut, he instead looked to the synthesized future, driving his organic bass and guitars into what amounted to a concept album of sorts, fueled by memories of lazy Saturday B-movie afternoons. Bright, punchy pop punctuates this set. From the quirky sci-fi of "Plan-9" and the contemporary urban groove on "State Your Mind," which is one of the album's better tracks,  Rodgers  fills the space with eminently danceable, if somewhat same-y, songs using synthesizer tricks to thrill. "Let's Go out Tonight," meanwhile, proved the album's hot prospect, dipping into the Top 100, giving  Rodgers  his only solo chart hit. Rounding things out are the ballad "Wavelength" and  Rodgers ' immaculate instrumentation -- most notably the guitar and bass, which bound through the funky "Groove Master" with glee. Perhaps a little too light on substance,  B-Movie Matinee  still manages to please. Being  Nile Rodgers  can't be easy, as the mere mention of his name conjures such strong sonic images from his  Chic  canon, and it's hard to ignore those predispositions when listening to his solo material. But that's no detriment to the fine set he's unleashed here.

The liner notes feature track-by-track commentary from Bun E. Carlos, Rick Nielsen, and Robin Zander via interviews with longtime band biographer Ken Sharp and Timothy J. Smith, the Epic Archive series compilation producer; once again, band lensman Robert Alford has contributed photos to our beautiful gatefold package. This 2-LP Flame Red vinyl release is exclusive to Record Store Day, and, remember, aside from the soundtrack songs, none of this material has ever been on a fulllength LP. Just as  ELO 's follow-up to the sweeping  Discovery  seemed tame by comparison, so  The Present  failed to match the grandiose arrangements of  the Moodies ' previous record. It's still a solid effort, bolstered by strong songwriting and pleasant melodies, but as good as the opening "Blue World" is, its downbeat message is no substitute for the clarion call of "The Voice."  The Present  seems to make a conscious effort to scale back the arena-size sound of their previous album, returning to the warmly rendered ballads of old.  Patrick Moraz, whose keyboards were a revelation on  Long Distance Voyager, plays a diminished role here, as  Justin Hayward 's guitar takes more of the lead, suggesting a poor man's  Phil Manzanera  or  David Gilmour. While it charted well and provided hit singles in "Blue World" and "Sitting at the Wheel" (again, it's  John Lodge  who provides the most invigorating track),  The Present  is a gift that listeners will need to warm up to over time. Only after several sittings do  Hayward 's lush ballads like "Meet Me Halfway" and "Running Water" sink in. Following the format of their last effort, the closing tracks are given to  Ray Thomas, who once more proves a compelling presence (he's also the only good thing about "Going Nowhere"). "I Am" and "Sorry" amount to little more than love songs, but  Thomas ' sense for dramatic arrangements manages to elevate the musical discussion. Given the now infrequent release of new albums by  the Moody Blues, more could have been expected from  The Present, but less could have been achieved (as the disappointing  Keys of the Kingdom  demonstrated). If it's merely average by  Moodies  standards, at least  The Present  didn't bode ill for the future.
