QUAID DENNIS & THE SHARKS - OUT OF THE BOX QUAID DENNIS & THE SHARKS - OUT OF THE BOX Discográfica:   Omnivore Recordings Dennis Quaid & The Sharks origins can be traced to a night when Quaid went to see actor Harry Dean Stanton and his longtime band perform in Los Angeles. Quaid was invited to join the band onstage. At fi rst reluctant, because of his decade-long layoff from music, Quaid fi nally acquiesced, and his performance sparked a musical kinship between Jamie James-guitar player in Stanton's band and the Kingbees' front man-and Quaid that led to them forming their own band. James quickly began recruiting others for the band and it wasn't long before Dennis Quaid & The Sharks were performing on the L.A. club circuit. Quaid was certainly no stranger to either the recording studio or the stage being a seasoned actor and having cut songs for soundtracks to his movies dating back to the '80s with contributions to soundtracks like The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia, Tough Enough, The Big Easy, and more. Music had always been important to Quaid, ''As far back as I can remember, music has always been a big part of my life. My third cousin was Gene Autry, the original Western movie singing cowboy. My grandmother played piano and sang songs from the '20s, songs from her youth. My dad played piano and crooned like Bing Crosby and looked a little like Dean Martin.'' Quienes vieron a Simple Minds actuar en aquella gira tuvieron la impresión de que la banda estaba cerrando un capítulo importante de su carrera, como si quisiera pasar página. Cuando en la primavera de 1987 se publica el doble álbum en vivo 'In the city of light', grabado en el Zenith de París, el grupo vuelve a acelerar los corazones de sus miles de fans. Sus cuatro caras contienen una hora y media de gran rock, una suma de toda la producción de la banda escocesa. Live In The City Of Light fue un disco en directo, editado en 1987, en donde se plasmaba la extensa gira del grupo por aquel entonces, grabado durante la actuación de 2 noches en París en 1986. El disco tuvo un gran éxito comercial pero no fue capaz de demostrar el gran directo de la banda. Tras la extenuante gira, el grupo decide tomarse un descanso. Después de 10 años sin pausa se necesitaba buscar un poco de calma. Durante estos años, Simple Minds fue un gran colaborador y divulgador de Amnistía Internacional. Live In The City Of Light is the first (double LP / CD) live album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. It was released in May 1987 to document their successful worldwide Once Upon a Time tour, and charted at No. 1 in the UK. The album spawned one chart single release, a live version of "Promised You a Miracle". The album was recorded mostly at Le Zénith, Paris in August 1986, with one track recorded in October 1986 in Sydney, Australia. (Although the album was not recorded there, the inside of the gatefold sleeve features a photograph of a concert from the 1986 tour which took place in a square in Locarno, Switzerland). It features the band's 1986 touring lineup, which included second vocalist Robin Clark and percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos. Lisa Germano (at the time, a John Mellencamp band member who would perform on Simple Minds' next studio single, Belfast Child), contributed studio-overdubbed violin on "Someone Somewhere in Summertime" and former Simple Minds member Derek Forbes contributed  bass guitar overdubs. Live In The City Of Light was released as a double vinyl album with the band's logo in gold lettering over black sleeve. The package featured a 12" x 12" attached giant-sized booklet with state-of-the-art photography of the band's performance and outdoor session pictures. This art could not be reproduced faithfully on later CD releases (an original 1st pressing on double-fat jewel case and the USA version packaged in a long box on two separate discs). In 1965 The End arose from the glowing embers of the earlier tuxedos, innocents and original topics, and like many of their contemporaries evolved into a psychedelic group. Along the way, they won the support and patronage of the Rolling Stones' Bill Wyman, who produced their sole album for Decca, introspection (LP2). he also co-wrote their signature tune, the psychedelic classic Shades Of Orange, although the band wrote the rest of their material. This four LP box set gathers together The End's recordings: In The Beginning covers the early days from 1964 to 1967, LP 2 is the 1968 Introspection album, Retrospection features outtakes from the period 1968/69, while The Last Word rounds up the band's recordings from 1969/70, before they reinvented themselves as Tucky Buzzard. This box set features a note by founder member Colin Giffin, artwork by legendary designer Phil Smee, and the inner sleeves feature photos and ephemera, and the band's story written by acknowledged expert David Wells.

NITS - KNOT NITS - KNOT Discográfica:   Werf The new NITS album 'Knot', recorded in their own Werf studio in Amsterdam, will be released on November 22. Its 11 songs originated from three long sessions that produced some 20 hours of improvisation and text fragments. But whereas the band's previous album 'angst' was largely inspired by conversations between lyricist Henk Hofstede and his mother, 'Knot' covers a much broader range of topics, including experiences from his immediate environment, mixed with observations and fantasies. A dance party in Ostend connects Marvin Gaye with Belgian painter and printmaker James Ensor ('Dead Rat Ball'), clearing out the parental home evokes the work of British sculptor Rachel Whiteread ('The Concrete House'), and a character from a thriller inhabits the text of 'Music Box With Ballerina'. For 45 years, NITS has been the Netherlands' most elusive band with a truly awe-inspiring oeuvre. They are still on the road giving concerts full of dynamics, humour and virtuosity, infused with a deep European melancholy and performed with stylish versatility. 'Knot' will be available on CD, vinyl and streaming.
