Recessed or down lights can sometimes be problematic if they angle away from the ceiling making it too dark. A floor lamp angled at the ceiling is an easy solution. Direct light is best. Fluorescent lights, CFLs, bright LEDs are recommended. UV tubes and black lights can be used but avoid using in children's bedrooms as UV light can damage eyesight. Incandescent bulbs do not charge well and are not recommended. These stickers charge, glow and display best on white backgrounds.
