GUTHRIE WOODY - I DONT LIKE THE WAY THIS WORL GUTHRIE WOODY - I DONT LIKE THE WAY THIS WORL Discográfica:   Omnivore Recordings There are few names woven more tightly into the fabric of American music, politics, and history than Woody Guthrie. In 1952, Guthrie wrote and recorded a song at home titled ''I Don't Like The Way This World's A-Treatin' Me.'' The track appears on vinyl for the first time on a limited edition 10'' of the same name for Record Store Day 2019. Also found on this special release is a second version of the demo with new accompaniment from Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, who, along with Billy Bragg and Wilco, released a series of acclaimed albums featuring their interpretations of unearthed Guthrie lyrics. Mermaid Avenue, the first in the series, was nominated for a Grammy in 2000. If those two tracks weren't enough, I Don't Like The Way This World's Treatin' Me includes two versions of ''Beech Haven Ain't My Home'' (aka ''Old Man Trump''), whose lyrics were discovered within the Woody Guthrie Archives and chronicle the time the Guthrie family lived under landlord Fred Trump. As two drafts of the lyrics exist, the Riot-Folk Musician's Collective's Ryan Harvey combined them, with music composed by Johnny Irion (husband and musical partner of Woody's granddaughter Sarah Lee Guthrie). This release contains a version by Harvey featuring Ani DiFranco and Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine/Auidoslave), and another from Irion's band U.S. Elevator. Available exclusively for Record Store Day as a 10'' EP, I Don't Like The Way This World's A-Treatin' Me is not only an historic, but a musical document, released in conjunction and with full cooperation from the Woody Guthrie Archives. EBERHARD SCHOENER (STING / ANDY SUMMERS) - VIDEO MAGIC - VINILO ORIGINAL 1978 HARVEST ALEMANIA EBERHARD SCHOENER (STING / ANDY SUMMERS) - VIDEO MAGIC - VINILO ORIGINAL 1978 HARVEST ALEMANIA A raíz de su colaboración con Jon Lord, más conocido por ser el teclista de los Deep Purple, Andy Summers entró en contacto con Eberhard – quien se encargaba por aquel entonces de orquestar algunos temas del álbum de Lord “Sarabande” (1976) – quien le ofreció la oportunidad de grabar en Munich varias pistas de guitarra para el proyecto que preparaba, “The book” (1977). Now this has got to be the most unusual thing on the face of the planet: to hear The Police do prog rock. On Schoener's previous album, Flashback, he had all three members, Sting, Andy Summers play on that album. I have to say I hadn't heard that one. With Video Magic, Stewart Copeland sat this one out, with Evert Fraterman in his place. I have to let you know that Schoener had Andy Summers play on many of his albums even way before The Police ever existed. The album opens with " Octagon ", which is an instrumental piece, dominated by Andy Summers guitar playing. Here, I get reminded so much more of Pink Floyd than anything The Police would ever do. Sting here is sticking to bass duty. " Speech Behind Speech " is a real trip: totally drenched with Mellotron, and Sting here is doing the singing. You know right away that Sting's voice is perfect for the usual music you expect the Police to do, but in a prog setting, it sounds really peculiar. " Natural High ", again has Sting doing vocals, it's about as close to The Police sound you're gonna get here, but it's still packed with Mellotron, and is actually an excellent song. All this Mellotron work came from Schoener himself. " Code Word Elvis " is largely an orchestral piece, no surprise, given that Eberhard Schoener had spent his time conducting orchestras. " Night Bound City " is a purely electronic piece that you know none of the dudes from The Police participated in, while " San Francisco Waitress " brings to mind Sting's post-Police solo albums like Dream of the Blue Turtles, especially because of the jazzy feel and sax (although sax here is by Olaf Kübler, who used a tenor sax, unlike Branford Marsalis who tended to soprano sax). The last piece, "Koan" is an instrumental piece that tends to be rather minimalist. Now this isn't going to be the greatest thing you'll ever hear. Police fans might find it a bit unsettling to see their heroes doing prog rock, and neither is it the most cohesive album out there (Schoener couldn't decide whether to do prog rock, electronic, or orchestral music), but if you're a proghead and you wonder what would happen if the Police were a prog rock band, give this album a try (you can also see that The Police would never be anywhere as popular as they were if they were a prog rock band, beside they came during the punk/new wave era and capitalized on that instead, which was to their benefit). But get this album if you can find it for cheap, which is what I did. Don't overspend. File this under: curiosity.

Bill Haley & His Comets already started to rock around the world with Rock Around The Clock in 1955 which was also the title song in the movie 'Blackboard Jungle'. He became the first boss of Rock and he eventually also reached the country of Brazil in 1956. Haley got millions of fans in Brazil and therefore he went on several tours throughout the country of Brazil during the following years. It started with two movies starring Bill Haley & His Comets, 'Rock Around The Clock', and 'Don't Knock The Rock', which found their ways into Brazilian movie theaters resulting into decisions by the record company Decca to issue Haley's records in slightly different forms in Brazil as well. Those platters are some of today's most sought-after collector's items because of their limited ordinance. This Frank Zappa-oriented release is part of the series, although this particular compilation is also geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. These two labels were manufactured and distributed by Reprise Records. This Frank Zappa-oriented 'Zapped' release is the 6th issue in the series, a compilation geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. (These two labels were manufactured and distributed for Reprise Records by Warner Bros. Records from mid 1969 [Previously 7Arts]). The black & white cover of this PRO 368 release has a portrait of Zappa and the title is "Zapped" without an accent over the 'e' (as on a subsequent/similar PRO 368 release with a 'collage' cover & Reprise label). Joining  Adderley  for the six tracks here are fellow  Davis  alumni  Philly Joe Jones  on drums and  Bill Evans  on piano. These three are augmented by the wonderful and often-underrated  Blue Mitchell  on trumpet and the equally illustrious  Sam Jones  on bass. Everyone is in top form on a varied set that takes in two  Adderley  originals (the fine ballad "Straight Life" and "A Little Taste"), a classic  Gigi Gryce  number ("Minority"), and  Miles ' oft-covered "Nardis." Filling out the program, we have a rare  Sam Jones -penned cut, "Blue Funk," and a lone standard in the  Rogers & Hammerstein  chestnut from Oklahoma, "People Will Say We're in Love." One of the highlights from  Adderley 's hard bop prime. "Things Are Getting Better" This title provides ample evidence why alto  Cannonball Adderley  is considered one of the masters of his craft. Here he joins forces with  Modern Jazz Quartet  co-founder  Milt Jackson  on vibes to create a variety of sonic atmospheres. They are backed by the all-star ensemble of  Wynton Kelly  on piano,  Percy Heath  on bass, and the one and only  Art Blakey  on drums. The moody "Blues Oriental" opens the set with  Jackson  immediately diving in with his trademark fluid runs and shimmering intonation.  Adderley  counters with a light and lively line that weaves between the rhythm section. The optimistic "Things Are Getting Better" is a good-natured romp as the co-leads trade and cajole each other into some downright rollicking exchanges. This directly contrasts with the sultry "Serves Me Right," which allows the combo members to demonstrate their collective musical malleability. The interaction between  Adderley  and  Jackson  sparkles as they entwine their respective playing with an uncanny singularity of spirit. The cover of  Dizzy Gillespie 's "Groovin' High" contains another spirited performance with some thoroughly engaging improvisation, especially during  Adderley 's voracious solos. "Sidewalks of New York" bops freely as  Jackson  unleashes some sublime licks against a hearty and equally boisterous sax.  Adderley 's "Sounds for Sid" demonstrates his uncanny ability to swing with a strong R&B vibe. With drop-dead timing and profound instrumental chops, this cut is undoubtedly one of the best from  Adderley 's earliest canon. The album concludes with a jumping reading of  Cole Porter 's "Just One of Those Things." While  Wynton Kelly  has been uniformly solid, his interjections stand out here as he bridges and undergirds the two as they banter with flair and aplomb. This set can be recommended without hesitation to all manner of jazz enthusiast, as it quite literally offers something for every taste. An album of cover versions of songs dear to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, Neon Lights, was released in 2001, followed by Cry in 2002, an album of new compositions recorded in Glasgow and Sicily. The recordings for Black and White 050505 were completed on the 5th May 2005, hence the title. This album and Neon Lights and Cry make their first appearances on vinyl in this box set, with specially-created outer and inner sleeves, and include some exclusive bonus tracks from the CD releases. Graffiti Soul continued the band's return to the top, charting at # 10 in May 2009. Big Music was released in October 2014, charting at #12. All the albums are pressed on different coloured 180 gram vinyl, and the rigid slipcase features a brand new note by Jim Kerr.

But if  Rock and Roll Heart  sounds like " Lou Reed  Lite," there are more than a few flashes of  Reed 's inarguable talent. His band is in fine form (especially  Marty Fogel  on sax and  Michael Fonfara  on keyboards). "Banging on My Drum" is a crunchy rocker that recalls his work with  the Velvet Underground; "A Sheltered Life" is an amusing bit of  VU  archeology (the Velvets demoed the song, but this marked its first appearance on record); and the closer, "Temporary Thing," is a bitter, haunting narrative that foreshadows  Reed 's next album, the harrowing masterpiece  Street Hassle.

In looking at how this September 1997 tour was structured, this could have been a show to skip - or maybe not. This was the fourth show in a row to open the tour, on a Monday night, involved crossing an international border, at a real small place so it might be real crowded. All of that could keep some from making the trip, but for others, those were exactly the reasons to go...and possibly collect the rewards for doing so. The band just seems to have a knack to know when the fans have gone out of their way and really paid some dues to make it. Or when a local crowd gets it. In either case, and in terms of this Montreal 1997 show, both cases, Widespread Panic gets off on that and then seems to go that extra mile.

Great Balls of Fire! is a 1989 American biographical film directed by Jim McBride and starring Dennis Quaid as rockabilly pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis. Based on a biography by Myra Lewis and Murray M. Silver, Jr., the screenplay is written by McBride and Jack Baran. The film is produced by Adam Fields, with executive producers credited as Michael Grais, Mark Victor, and Art Levinson. The early career of Jerry Lee Lewis, from his rise to rock and roll stardom to his controversial marriage to his 13-year-old cousin that led to his downfall, is depicted in the film. Until the scandal of the marriage depreciated his image, many had thought Lewis would supplant Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock and Roll" in the 1950s. The story was co-written by Myra Gail Lewis (her autobiography Great Balls of Fire!), the former wife of Jerry Lee Lewis, with Murray Silver. Despite this, co-writer Silver was upset by the lack of accuracy in the film, claiming it was "phoney". Director Jim McBride admitted that it was never his intention to tie his film to the facts, and stated "This movie does not represent itself in any way to be a historical documentary. We use the book as a jumping-off point." Lewis has openly stated that he hates the film and the book it was based on. Lewis did, however, praise Quaid's portrayal of him in the film, saying "he really pulled it off".Quaid even learned to play "Lewis-style" piano for the role. This was the final film of character actor Trey Wilson. He died at age forty from a cerebral hemorrhage in January 1989, prior to the film's release. An original motion picture soundtrack was released by the producers on the Polydor Records label on June 8, 1989. Lewis re-recorded his music from the 1950s for the soundtrack with the title track " Great Balls of Fire," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "That Lucky Old Sun." The soundtrack contains 12 tracks. A music video of the song "Great Balls of Fire", with Quaid and Lewis playing the piano and containing snippets of scenes from the film, was featured on the original VHS video release preceding the film. "Lewis Boogie" is also in the film during the closing credits but does not appear on the soundtrack album.

This date has been released under various titles over the years since its original inception as  Teddy Charles' New Directions Quartet Featuring Booker Little and Booker Ervin. Most of the material is straight-ahead bop under the leadership of vibraphonist  Teddy Charles  with  Mal Waldron  on piano,  Addison Farmer  on bass, and Ed Shaunesssy on drums. This is a noteworthy reissue considering that there are so few instances of  Little 's lyrical trumpet style and  Ervin 's passionate tenor recorded together. Original compositions include  Ervin 's "Scoochie,"  Little 's "The Confined Few" and "Witch Fire," Shaunessy's "Blues de Tambour," pianist  Ahmad Jamal 's "Cycles," plus the standard "Stardust" (receiving an especially melancholy treatment.) The only complaint is the lack of liner notes, which excludes information on personnel and session history.
