Dillon spent her entire career recording for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle imprint; though One Life to Live was released in 1972, it is something of a compilation, including material recorded through 1968 to 1972. And as such, it features a bunch of her solo hits, including Long Time No Nice Time, We Belong Together, and the title tune. But to American ears, her interpretations of such rock warhorses as George Harrison's Something and Stephen Stills' Love the One You're With may stand out the most; in her light, rocksteady style laced with rock and pop, she truly makes these songs her own. For this first-ever Stateside vinyl reissue, we have remastered this seminal album to make it sound better than it ever has, and we're issuing it in a sky blue marble vinyl edition limited to just 300 copies!

Carla Bozulich decided to hunt down what was killing her and rip it to shreds, unsure how but doing it anyway. She put together a great band. They were lucky in lots of ways. The drive behind the project was to burn up indoctrination and shame and guy-centric rock, and to have fun with friends in the L.A. scene. They weren't trying to break barriers or be the best, just to scratch their way out of the cold, cold ground and to make and play some fresh songs. The band for this record was Bill Tutton (contra-bass), Kevin Fitzgerald (drums), Daniel Keenan (guitar), Jesse Greene (violin) and Carla Bozulich (vox, guitar). Four bonus tracks include Nels Cline (in an alt-cover of Can's You Doo Right, for example) and Jessica Moss (Silver Mount Zion) playing on a brand new Fibbers track. Thank You For Giving Me Life. Minutemen and / or Pettibon fans, the lyrics of this track will ring bells! There are so many genders. Many of her lyrics, in Bozulich's mind, are written and sung by a man or a genderless creature, just saying what has to be said. Girl bands are a great statement against misogyny in rock and roll, but it turned out that playing with the Fibbers, consisting of random gendered humans who strongly opposed discrimination, was also a beautiful solution-to simply play with the best musicians she knows, drawn together by pure musical magnetism and wanting to be soaked in underground madness and beauty. Lost Somewhere Between The Earth And My Home was recorded by Steve Fisk (Nirvana, Unwound, Beat Happening) and released in 1995. It is, in turns, tempestuous and tender. Classic country wraps up with noise, a crack-band and a singular voice mix like a twisted, American journey.

Closely associated with fellow New Wave of British Heavy Metal legends Motörhead (with whom they shared the hit single Please Don't Touch found here), Girlschool is still kickin' out the jams 40 years later with three (Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams, and Denise Dufort) of the four original members of the band. And here, collected inside a gatefold package sporting original picture sleeves and great liner notes by compiler Mark Captain Oi Brennan, are all their classic early singles, including their first one, Take It All Away, for the City Records label, followed by all those fantastic Bronze-label sides featuring hits like Race with the Devil, Hit and Run, C'Mon Let's Go, and Wildlife. We're putting this one out in white vinyl limited to just 300 copies, and you might want to buy two…you're liable to wear out your first copy!

With bassist  Sam Jones  and drummer  Bobby Durham,  Peterson  tears into the old gospel favorite "Travelin' On" with a passion second to none. Following it is a beautiful treatment of  Johnny Mandel 's timeless ballad "Emily," which runs for over ten minutes but never loses its impact.  Durham  sets the pace with his soft percussion to set up  Antonio Carlos Jobim 's "Corcovado" (later known as "Quiet Nights"), though  Peterson  devours the song whole with a breathtaking display of his formidable technique.  Francy Boland 's "Sax No End" was a relatively new composition, having been recorded for the first time just the previous year by the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. But one can almost hear a larger ensemble by listening to  Peterson 's virtuoso interpretation in an uptempo setting, assisted by  Jones ' agile bass and  Durham 's steady percussion.  Peterson  cools off his audience with an extended exploration of  Benny Carter 's "When Lights Are Low," though his fresh approach makes it seem like a brand new composition. Like other releases in  Oscar Peterson 's Exclusively for My Friends series,  Travelin' On  is warmly recommended.

Combining their various influences (including R&B, pop, dance, electronica),  Heaven 17  fused these styles together to made an almost perfect sound. A strong melody, stunning vocals from  Glenn Gregory, and tight production equal a fascinating glimpse into the human struggle. Adding a number of session players, including a guitarist,  Heaven 17  was able to expand and build on their solid sound.  Gregory  is also allowed to branch out on this album and write more personal and political statements that were not clearly heard on their first two albums. Fans will not be disappointed, and in fact, this could be the album to win new fans over. "Sunset Now," and "Flamedown," are just a few of the reasons for this ep greatness.
