They're still a pub-rock band at heart, though, and the combination usually works quite well, at times making for some truly inspired moments like "Emotional Traffic," which sounds remarkably like a  Nick Lowe  song.

Kings of the Wild Frontier is the second album by English new wave band Adam and the Ants. It was released in November 1980 by record label CBS. This album introduced the "Burundi beat" sound to popular music. Kings of the Wild Frontier was released on 3 November 1980 by record label CBS in the UK and Epic records internationally. It reached No. 1 in the UK Album Chart, and spawned three hit singles: "Kings of the Wild Frontier", which was released in July and reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart; "Dog Eat Dog", which reached No. 4; and 'Antmusic', released in December and reaching No. 2, as well as No. 1 in Australia for five weeks. The album was the UK number 1 selling album in 1981 (and the 48th best seller in 1980) and won Best British Album at the 1982 Brit Awards. The US version of the album dropped "Making History" in favour of two tracks penned by Ant prior to teaming up with Marco Pirroni, "(You're So) Physical" and "Press Darlings". FISCHER Z - GOING RED FOR A SALAD (THE UA YEARS) VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION EMI ENGLAND 1990 FISCHER Z - GOING RED FOR A SALAD (THE UA YEARS) VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION EMI ENGLAND 1990 En una época en la que muchas bandas resultaban inclasificables, Fischer Z destaca por su particular estilo a medio camino entre el Punk, el Reggae y la New Wave. En Inglaterra se les comparó rápidamente con Talking Heads, pero fue en Alemania y Austria donde este grupo causó furor más que en su tierra natal. Hablar de Fischer Z es hablar, en cierto modo, de su líder y fundador John Watts, un músico intelectual y enigmático que supo combinar melodías pegadizas con letras de marcado carácter psicológico, social y político. El grupo lo forma en 1976 junto a su compañero de estudios Steve Skolnik. Completarían la banda el bajista David Graham y el batería Steve Liddle. Era una época en la que el punk arrasaba con todo en Inglaterra y sin embargo Fischer Z ofrecían algo más. Primero porque John Watts era un tipo muy culto y muy preocupado por los problemas sociales del momento. El estilo de Fischer Z fue rápidamente comparado como decíamos  con Talking Heads o The Police. En 1979 lanzaron su primer disco “Word Salad”, que incluía temas como el que acabamos de oír, y lograron una actuación en directo para el mítico programa musical británico “Top of the Pops”. Esta actuación resulta un desastre y perjudica a las ventas del disco. En 1980 llegará “ So Long ”, probablemente su canción más conocida gracias a la cual todavía conservan cierta fama. A mediados de ese mismo año Skolnik, el teclista, abandona el grupo y éste queda reducido a un trío en el Watts plasta definitivamente todas sus obsesiones. Aquí llegaría su disco más destacado “Red Skies Over Paradise”, un trabajo cuya inspiración reside en la guerra fría y la amenaza nuclear. Otro tema impresionante de este gran disco es “ Berlin ”. Llegados a 1990, su antigua compañía de discos la EMI Electrola Records lanza al mercado un disco recopilatorio bajo el titulo de Going red for a salad (The UA years). Este disco recopilatorio venia a recoger los mayores éxitos de la banda a lo largo de su paso por esta compañía de discos, destacando los mejores temas también de los primeros álbumes de John Watts. Dos años mas tarde de nuevo se vuelve a editar un nuevo disco de la banda bajo el titulo de Destination paradise. Con este trabajo la formación se consolido como una de las mejores de la época, ya que las temáticas de las letras hablaban de lo cotidiano, desde la guerra del golfo hasta canciones de amor en clave de humor. Tras este disco comienzan una nueva y extensa gira mundial, con la única intención de captar nuevo fans. The original line-up consisted of Watts (vocals, guitar), Skolnik (keyboards), David Graham (bass) and Steve Liddle (drums). The band's name is pronounced "fɪʃə zɛd" (fisher zed), a pun on "fish's head" with the "h" dropped, as is usual in many British regional accents. The pun also relies on leaving the "r" unpronounced as in common British non-rhotic accents. Fischer-Z's first hit was "The Worker" from the album Word Salad which firmly established Watts' ability to convey worldly political issues in narrative songs against a background of quirky pop and reggae-influenced music. In an interview in Record Mirror in 1981, Watts put this down to the remix of the song from the album version, which put the emphasis on the keyboards rather than his guitar. Skolnik departed after their second album Going Deaf for a Living, leaving Watts to take over keyboards. Watts' lyrics draw heavily on his experiences of studying clinical psychology and as a mental health care worker. Several songs on their third album Red Skies Over Paradise in 1981, such as "Berlin" and "Red Skies Over Paradise" were about the Cold War and the song "Cruise Missiles" was about the nuclear arms race and the mutual threat of the superpowers with nuclear war. Fischer-Z were more popular in mainland Europe than their native UK, especially in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Portugal (two top 10 hits and a No. 3 album). Fischer-Z were also successful in Australia, where they achieved two Top 20 hits with "So Long" from the album Going Deaf for a Living and "The Perfect Day" from Reveal.[2] After the album Red Skies over Paradise Watts dissolved the band in mid-1981, deciding his art could not evolve within a band context.

The Inner Sanctum is 17th studio album by Saxon. It is the first album by the band to feature drummer Nigel Glockler since 1997's Unleash the Beast. Saxon formed in 1976, in South Yorkshire. As one of the leaders of the new wave of British heavy metal, they had eight UK Top 40 albums in the 1980s including four UK Top 10 albums and two Top 5 albums. The band also had numerous singles in the UK Singles Chart and chart success all over Europe and Japan, as well as success in the US. During the 1980s Saxon established themselves as one of Europe's biggest metal acts. They are considered one of the classic metal acts and have influenced many bands such as Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Pantera, Sodom, Skid Row, and Megadeth.

Given the sadly neglected status of the band's early catalog -- meaning anything that was released prior to 1982's breakthrough  New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)  -- through the early 2000s, it is doubly unfortunate that a compilation like this remained out of print for an extended period of time. And though the studio albums remained in print in the U.K.,  Simple Minds ' early years hardly received the red carpet compilation treatment that their later works did. While nothing here came close to approaching the stadium-pleasing popularity of later smashes like "Don't You (Forget About Me)," "Alive and Kicking," or even "Promised You a Miracle,"  Celebration  might provide a little shock to an initiated someone who snaps up a copy. It's a near-definite that plenty of people who own  New Gold Dream  and/or the  Glittering Prize 81/92 compilation remain oblivious to the fact that  Simple Minds  released five albums that ranged from good to spectacular between 1979 and 1981, before  New Gold Dream  came along with its perfect balance of art and pop to connect with a mass audience. Not only was 1979-1981 a prolific period for the band, but it was a period that witnessed them blossoming from a decent guitar-based post-punk band to a far more rhythmic and experimental entity that gradually shed their influences while ambitiously building on them. And as the few brave souls who have remained devout  Simple Minds  fans from day one might tell you,  Celebration  has stood the test of time better than  Glittering Prize  track-for-track.

His maiden voyage would likewise mark the beginning of a downward spiral in terms of the string of hits that was usually associated with  Chicago  albums. Both the upbeat and pumping opener "Alive Again" and the typical adult contemporary balladry of "No Tell Lover" became their last Top 40 hits for nearly four years.  Phil Ramone 's production gives the material an added and noticeable bite. The  Peter Cetera  (bass/vocals) rocker "Little Miss Lovin" recalls the band's earliest sides by blending an aggressive backbeat with a funky and soulful rhythm. "Gone, Long, Gone," the disc's other  Cetera contribution, also stands out for  Dacus ' spot-on slide guitar intonation, which mimics a similar style used most notably by  George Harrison. Although it failed to chart when extracted as a single, Robert Lamm's (keyboards/vocals) "Love Was New" is one of the more jazz-influenced tunes on  Hot Streets. The laid-back groove effortlessly carries the melody behind a fusion of light rock and contemporary jazz. The rapidly changing pop music landscape, whose horizons would embrace disco and new wave, would all but abandon  Chicago  for the group's next few albums. Although the band attempted to adapt to the trends, it would be four LPs and four years before  Chicago  would re-emerge in full form on its comeback,  Chicago 16  (1982).

In contrast,  Nick Lowe 's second album,  Labour of Lust, is the work of a bar band, in this case  Rockpile, playing the hell out of the same type of songs. Naturally, the result is a more coherent sound that may be a little less freewheelingly eclectic, but it is no less brilliant. Recorded simultaneously with  Dave Edmunds '  Repeat When Necessary,  Labour of Lust  benefits from the muscular support of  Rockpile, who make  Lowe 's songs crackle with vitality. Working primarily in the roots rock vein of  Brinsley Schwarz  but energizing his traditionalist tendencies with strong pop melodies, a sense of humor, and an edgy new wave sensibility,  Lowe  comes up with one of his best sets of songs. Not only is his only hit, the propulsively hook-laden "Cruel to Be Kind," here, but so are the rampaging outsider anthem "Born Fighter," the tongue-in-cheek,  Chuck Berry -style "Love So Fine," the wonderful pure pop of "Dose of You," the haunting "Endless Grey Ribbon," the druggy "Big Kick, Plain Scrap!," and the terrific "Cracking Up," as well as his definitive version of  Mickey Jupp 's "Switchboard Susan." It's an exceptional collection of inventive pop songs, delivered with vigor and energy, making it one of the great records of the new wave.  

EBERHARD SCHOENER (STING / ANDY SUMMERS) - VIDEO MAGIC - VINILO ORIGINAL 1978 HARVEST ALEMANIA EBERHARD SCHOENER (STING / ANDY SUMMERS) - VIDEO MAGIC - VINILO ORIGINAL 1978 HARVEST ALEMANIA A raíz de su colaboración con Jon Lord, más conocido por ser el teclista de los Deep Purple, Andy Summers entró en contacto con Eberhard – quien se encargaba por aquel entonces de orquestar algunos temas del álbum de Lord “Sarabande” (1976) – quien le ofreció la oportunidad de grabar en Munich varias pistas de guitarra para el proyecto que preparaba, “The book” (1977). Schoener quedó tan contento con el resultado que contrató a Andy para “Trance-formation” (1977), en donde tuvo absoluta libertad para grabar en los huecos que le dejaba la banda a la que acababa de vincularse, The Police.El numeroso y bien remunerado trabajo que ofrece Schoener pronto alcanza a los tres miembros de la banda – el conductor alemán no necesitaba un bajista pero cambió de opinión cuando escuchó cantar a Sting, decidiendo incluir también su voz en sus recargados espectáculos -, quienes aprovechan la estancia en Munich – en noviembre del 77 – para grabar un álbum, “Flashback” (1978) y dar alguna comparecencia en vivo. Eberhard Schoener necesitaba una banda de músicos versátiles para formar parte del show que estaba creando.Nosotros acabábamos de formar The Police y necesitábamos desesperadamente fondos para mantener con vida nuestros sueños de estrellato. tracks: •octogon •speech behind speech •natural high •code-word elvis •video-magic •night bound city •san francisco waitress •koan Featuring Sting (Police), Andy Summers (Police), Evert Fraterman and Olaf Kubler.  Eberhard Schoener is a German composer, conductor, arranger, and keyboard player.   Now let it be known that I am reviewing the original German print of Eberhard Schoener's Video Magic on the Harvest label, rather than a compilation called Video Magic released in 1979 that consisted of material from both Video Magic and Flashback (1978) (often called Video Flashback, especially later on to avoid confusion). Now this has got to be the most unusual thing on the face of the planet: to hear The Police do prog rock. On Schoener's previous album, Flashback, he had all three members, Sting, Andy Summers play on that album. I have to say I hadn't heard that one. With Video Magic, Stewart Copeland sat this one out, with Evert Fraterman in his place. I have to let you know that Schoener had Andy Summers play on many of his albums even way before The Police ever existed. The album opens with " Octagon ", which is an instrumental piece, dominated by Andy Summers guitar playing. Here, I get reminded so much more of Pink Floyd than anything The Police would ever do. Sting here is sticking to bass duty. " Speech Behind Speech " is a real trip: totally drenched with Mellotron, and Sting here is doing the singing. You know right away that Sting's voice is perfect for the usual music you expect the Police to do, but in a prog setting, it sounds really peculiar. " Natural High ", again has Sting doing vocals, it's about as close to The Police sound you're gonna get here, but it's still packed with Mellotron, and is actually an excellent song. All this Mellotron work came from Schoener himself. " Code Word Elvis " is largely an orchestral piece, no surprise, given that Eberhard Schoener had spent his time conducting orchestras. " Night Bound City " is a purely electronic piece that you know none of the dudes from The Police participated in, while " San Francisco Waitress " brings to mind Sting's post-Police solo albums like Dream of the Blue Turtles, especially because of the jazzy feel and sax (although sax here is by Olaf Kübler, who used a tenor sax, unlike Branford Marsalis who tended to soprano sax). The last piece, "Koan" is an instrumental piece that tends to be rather minimalist. Now this isn't going to be the greatest thing you'll ever hear. Police fans might find it a bit unsettling to see their heroes doing prog rock, and neither is it the most cohesive album out there (Schoener couldn't decide whether to do prog rock, electronic, or orchestral music), but if you're a proghead and you wonder what would happen if the Police were a prog rock band, give this album a try (you can also see that The Police would never be anywhere as popular as they were if they were a prog rock band, beside they came during the punk/new wave era and capitalized on that instead, which was to their benefit). But get this album if you can find it for cheap, which is what I did. Don't overspend. File this under: curiosity.

It was the only song on the album that included Kenny Hyslop as the studio session drummer. Mike Ogletree and Mel Gaynor contributed for the other eight tracks. The song triggered a prolonged period of commercial success for the band, during which they yielded 21 original UK hit singles in a row, up to and including 1998's "Glitterball" from the album Neapolis. It also enabled them to make their debut on the British music television show Top of the Pops. A live version from the album Live in the City of Light was released in 1987. The band was formed in 1973 by former members of  Stoneground  and  It's a Beautiful Day: guitarist  Dave Jenkins, keyboardist  Cory Lerios, bassist  Bud Cockrell, and drummer  Steve Price. The group was praised for its compositional and instrumental skill on the albums  Pablo Cruise  and  Lifeline, and was rewarded with the Top Ten hit "Whatcha Gonna Do?" in 1977 from  A Place in the Sun.  Cockrell  left and was replaced by former  Santana  bassist  Bruce Day.  Worlds Away  went platinum, as did its predecessor, and produced three hit singles, including the Top Ten "Love Will Find a Way." By the time the '80s rolled around, the new wave movement was in full swing on the pop charts, and the group fell out of favor with the record-buying public. Several  Pablo Cruise  songs were used as soundtrack material for sports programs on ABC, CBS, and NBC, and the band's work also appeared in the films Free Ride, An Unmarried Woman, and Dreamer.

World in My Eyes fue el tema que cerró la promoción del álbum Violator. La carátula de "World in My Eyes" tiene la silueta de alguien haciendo con las manos un forma similar a la de unas gafas. El tema está apoyado en una base electrónica principal sostenida ejecutada por Alan Wilder, como era su costumbre de sonido grave y sobre la cual se conduce toda la función, agregando una serie de notaciones semi-graves siempre de sintetizador y efectos igualmente sólo electrónicos, aderezado con una sugerente letra sobre amor con una cínica proclama a “Mostrar el Mundo en mis Ojos”; un modo de decir el mundo de DM que para ese momento ya gozaba de un considerable éxito. Aunque en apariencia es un tema fácil y quizás hasta efectista, sólo puede ejecutarse con tres sintetizadores pues supone dos bases electrónicas, una disuelta sobre la otra, así como una tercera en los puentes, con lo cual de nuevo cada integrante del grupo adquiría protagonismo en su teclado, mientras la letra no fue muy profunda ni excesivamente pretenciosa. En conjunto de todos sus elementos era un tema un tanto retrospectivo, especialmente considerando la época en que se hizo cuando la música integralmente electrónica estaba ya relegada, incluso por DM que cada vez incorporaba mas cuerdas, sin embargo las bases electrónicas con que está construido son graves otorgándole un cierto sonido pesaroso y oscuro como habían practicado en álbumes anteriores y con lo cual World in My Eyes se convertía en un suave ejercicio de Dark Wave rítmico destinado especialmente a las pistas de baile. Andrew Fletcher de DM ha declarado que éste es su tema favorito de la banda. El sencillo contiene dos lados B, haciendo de Violator el único disco de Depeche Mode cuyos cuatro sencillos tienen al menos un lado B, los de World in My Eyes fueron los temas Happiest Girl y Sea of Sin también de Gore, y de hecho en portada el título del disco sencillo es World in My Eyes / Happiest Girl / Sea of Sin. "Martin did the demo on his own," recalled Andy Fletcher. "I don't remember it standing out when we heard it then. But somehow, in the studio, it all came together brilliantly… Whenever I'm asked which of our tracks is my favourite, I always say 'World In My Eyes'." The cover art for "World in My Eyes" has a photo of one of the band members making a shape similar to that of glasses with their hands. On the Limited 12", there are pictures of all four members. "World in My Eyes" has two exclusive B-sides, making Violator the only Depeche Mode album with all four singles having at least one exclusive B-Side, including instrumentals. The B-sides for " World in My Eyes " are " Happiest Girl " and " Sea of Sin ". "Happiest Girl (Jack Mix)" and "Sea of Sin (Tonal Mix)" are the main 7" versions. "Original" versions were never released, or rather, these mixes are the regular versions, according to interviews and the official website. Reaching No.17 in UK, and only No.52 on the Hot 100, it is the least successful single from Violator. The 2004 re-release of the EU single includes a longer-intro version of "World in My Eyes (Oil Tank Mix)".
