Kings of the Wild Frontier is the second album by English new wave band Adam and the Ants. It was released in November 1980 by record label CBS. This album introduced the "Burundi beat" sound to popular music. Kings of the Wild Frontier was released on 3 November 1980 by record label CBS in the UK and Epic records internationally. It reached No. 1 in the UK Album Chart, and spawned three hit singles: "Kings of the Wild Frontier", which was released in July and reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart; "Dog Eat Dog", which reached No. 4; and 'Antmusic', released in December and reaching No. 2, as well as No. 1 in Australia for five weeks. The album was the UK number 1 selling album in 1981 (and the 48th best seller in 1980) and won Best British Album at the 1982 Brit Awards. The US version of the album dropped "Making History" in favour of two tracks penned by Ant prior to teaming up with Marco Pirroni, "(You're So) Physical" and "Press Darlings". Uptempo numbers with pop hooks dominate the set, the 12 songs zip by in an efficient 38 minutes, and instead of  Reed 's trademark meditations on the dark side of life, the lyrics are (for the most part) lean bursts of verse and chorus, in which the artist sings the praises of good times in general and rock & roll in particular (then again, on "I Believe in Love,"  Reed  pledges his allegiance to both "good time music" and "the iron cross," a bit of perversity to remind us whose album this is). But if  Rock and Roll Heart  sounds like " Lou Reed  Lite," there are more than a few flashes of  Reed 's inarguable talent. His band is in fine form (especially  Marty Fogel  on sax and  Michael Fonfara  on keyboards). "Banging on My Drum" is a crunchy rocker that recalls his work with  the Velvet Underground; "A Sheltered Life" is an amusing bit of  VU  archeology (the Velvets demoed the song, but this marked its first appearance on record); and the closer, "Temporary Thing," is a bitter, haunting narrative that foreshadows  Reed 's next album, the harrowing masterpiece  Street Hassle.

The TV program aired in 1990-1991, without the traditional accompanying record release, and it was not until 2007 that the soundtrack album was issued, and only as a very limited CD via David Lynch’s own label. And so we have an artefact that has never been available on digital services, and more importantly, never on vinyl, and long gone on CD. And so there is nothing more ready for plugging into the set of Twin Peaks releases from Rhino, especially following on from the acclaimed pair of Season 3 soundtrack albums from 2017! Once again we have David Lynch himself overseeing the reissue pressed on 180g vinyl & with stills from the film included in the gatefold jacket. This is a release that will be eagerly embraced by Twin Peaks fans, & a great addition to our much beloved Twin Peaks catalog.
