Sugar Hill  es un barrio de Harlem, en la ciudad de Nueva York, marcado por el origen afroamericano de sus habitantes. Las calles de Sugar Hill transpiran música negra, igual que los ritmos de la Sugar Hill Band, una formación 100% grancanaria con el espíritu de la música negra de los años 60 y 70. La formación cuenta ya con más de quince años de trayectoria, ha pisado prácticamente todos los escenarios de las Islas, la Península e incluso ha dado el salto a Londres, participando en distintos festivales. Tras unos años retirados los de la Sugar Hill han vuelto a la primera línea de la música en directo, siempre fiel a la música negra de los años 60, y cuidando mucho los arreglos al estilo americano de la época. Han versionado a Otis Reeding, Sam Cooke, Aretha Frakling, Ray Charles, James Brown, los Blues Brothers y un largo etcétera, versiones que publicaron en su CD ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’. En su repertorio incluyen títulos como ‘I’ve got dreams to remember’ de Otis Reeding, ‘Compared to what’ de Ray Charles o ‘Piece of my heart’ que cantó Janis Joplin con aquella incomparable fuerza.
